I was impressed with the shot blocking by the defensemen. Those guys gave it all and I enjoyed watching the game. I hope the Rangers have a lot of defense depth because if the regulars continue to play that way, the injuries will pile up sooner or later.

Yeah, Vally was making that point last night. Has to be a happy medium.

Yep. He made a few nice backhand passes off the rush on that off-wing, too!! Nice to see. That will be one of the most challenging aspects of being on that side for him.

Even right before the goal he set up Fil with a sweet pass by he crease that Levi made a good save on (is that the one you’re referring to?)

I’ve been saying all along he needs more ice time, it’s almost like they’ve babied his responsibilities kind of. And no doubt under GG probably wasn’t best for his development and I’d make a case that that’s a big reason why he was canned in the first place. Not getting the best out of the youngsters.

The crazy shot blocking all game does worry me a little. I get it in the playoffs and there is a certain time of games If it’s tied or a one goal game where it is needed. But rangers are up 3 goals most of the game and it’s game 1 of 82. Let’s try to stay healthy lol. You have a top 3 goalie in the world. I think it’s fine to let him save some of these shots. You love to see the effort but i don’t know, maybe don’t dive in front of every one lol

Vallly took a shot at GG not sure anyone noticed. He was talking about Lavy and the system and he said under GG they had no system lol

As long it’s Bonino doing it we’ll be fine

I also heard the Puhljarvi is getting healthy and should sign somewhere soon, he may not be a bad addition down the line for depth, especially if Wheeler doesn’t work out

I saw that. I was smiling. The Gallant haters were validated for one fleeting moment.

Its 1 game, and it was a good one, but lets see how this plays out. GG had his faults, but so did the players. Plenty of blame to go around

Nah you guys were right. I just had a hard time not blaming the players yet again for getting a coach fired. Lavy def has his hands all over the team already. All the coaches really. No excuses this year, it’ll take time but you can see how good they can be under him. Buffalo isn’t a pushover and we basically pushed them over all game long

I just dream that Lafreniere could somewhat what we all hoped he could be at a bargain 2.3 mil cap hit this season

Yeah, that would be great. I don't think he will live up to the hype of a #1 overall, but he could definitely be much better than he has

His goal celebration always makes me laugh. Cause he holds his stick by the blade when he raises his hands and lets the rest drag against the ice lol. I never see anyone else do that

I mean there are going to be games this year where they stink. But that's just sports. The effort they showed last night was never there under Gallant. Blame has to be placed on the players, because they dictate the result. But the coach is supposed to help them overcome challenges. Gallant couldn't do that.

I brought this up recently, Laf will be our Landeskog. Not crazy numbers, but a solid piece of the core. He even resembles him a bit. He’ll be captain eventually (maybe when Trouba is gone)

I was so happy when he scored, because that was what we were are calling for. Put him in the top 6, let him go to net and let the playmakers find him. Worked perfect for goal 1. Just another 5 on 5 goal for Laf, gotta love that.

Purely for a pat on the back sort of moment , I made that comparison about 2 months into Laf's NHL career. I've really waivered on that opinion since!! But, I saw a similar skill set and level. Would love for that to come true.

Definitely reminds me of the Dan Girardi days. Man was a warrior on the back end blocking shots. I agree with putting yourself in harms way can be a concern, HOWEVER, I counter that this is one thing we needed to see more from this group, is that compete to win at all costs. I.E. Playoff guts. So it is nice to see a combination of the skill and the guts to win.
It was a good start. The real tests will come against teams like Carolina to see if the players can maintain the system in place, or do old habits die hard.

Didn't feel right hearing his name called as a member of the Sabres staff.

Buffalo is definitely a darling of pre-season know it alls though, so it's a hell of a road effort against a team predicted by a lot of people to take a big step this season
