I'm jealous. The oldest fossils we have in Florida are Eocene and Miocene. And most of the Eocene stuff is inverts. No dinosaurs.

Pretty great, as far as I'm concerned.

I think all three are better than the other three. I'm just hoping that the old adage holds firm; Pitching and Defense wins championships. 'Cause I think the Jays got the best in both. Just need the offense to show up.

Best thing I have personally recovered was some associated mammoth parts from the same beast at the same site - lower jaw, one tooth, a toe bone, and a 4-foot section of tusk.

Every time I find a megalodon tooth, it makes the trip also. Those are getting harder to come by because a ton of new hunters are competing for finds.

I think the Jays, with the depth in their rotation, have more of an advantage when/if they get to a longer series.

It's like fishing for dead things. LOL.

You go out in a boat in the middle of nowhere out in nature with no guarantee of coming home with anything good. But, the day spent outside is worth the trip either way.

You only get about 3 good months per year to hunt fossils down here. The rest of the year is too hot and the water is too high/fast.

Because my first thought was you were joking because of a Ichthyosaur's long snout "under your belt".

I operate on a state permit down here. The University of Florida department of vertebrate paleontology has right of first refusal on every vertebrate that I find (except sharks and rays, which are exempt). Invertebrates and plant fossils are also exempt.

In over 10 years of reporting my finds to the state, they have never placed a claim on a single specimen. As cool as mammoth tusks and megalodon teeth are, they already have boxes and cabinets full of them.
