There are some guys that really stood out live tonight. Reilly Smith is super creative and does a lot of little things when on the ice. I think Geno and (most likely) Rakell will make for a very good third line.
Rust looked good tonight. I expect a bounce back year for him.
DOC is fast and plays a killer 200ft game. It sucks he went to the Dominic Simon school of shooting, but if he keeps getting multiple chances a game I can see him having a 15-15 30 point season.
Pettersson is goin to have a career year points wise. Karlsson opens up so much ice for him.

Haha I was thinking about Simon too watching DOC tonight. He created a ton and felt like he should have had 3-4 goals. Hopefully signs of good things to come, because we need a breakout player or two. Thought Eller had a nice game too |

Eller just isn't going to bring any offense. If you put a more skilled playmaker on that line it would be good. Nieto isn't that guy. Zohorna or Puustinen would be better. |

DOC diggity... I was starting to think to myself he's all chances, no finish...but he got it done. - MattStrat
Yea if he keeps this bit of touch during the real games we got ourselves a solid third line scorer. |

I envision Eller at some point centering the 4th line as a shutdown line. The third line will end up being a scoring line by way of internal and Dubas making a move.(Deadline) |

Yea if Doc keeps going he definitely can be in line for a 15 goal campaign. |

I thought Nieto-Eller-Acciari was going to be the shut down line. I still think they can. I think that could leave DOC-Zohorna-Nylander/Puustinen/Carter for a bottom 6 line with some offense. |

I don't see what the coaches see. He keeps up, but doesn't stand out in any particular way. |

The only thing that stood out to me was Carter made a few really heady breakout plays that lead directly to expected goals. And Malkin is still a moron on the power play. |

I agree. I think like someone else said the plan is Nylander there. If Z makes the team I'd play him there over Nieto. Puustinen said earlier if he doesn't beat out Nylander for the open top 9 spot won't be on the team due to cap restrictions. Eller.... they gave him some decent money, he'll have some rope. I'm not convinced he has enough left but looked good tonight. |

Agree. Nylander could be an offensive spark on the third line. But on a top 6 he's just kind of there at least so far in his Pens career. But he's what they have with Jake out unless DOC gets a look. |

Doc-Sid-Rak, just do it. Wasn't someone saying Doc and Rak looked good together?

Geno looked like he was in outer space on some pass attempts. Carter looked faster than last season hahah..however he hasn't played a bunch of games yet hahah

The best 5 on 5 players were Wagner, Nieto and Acciari...all above 80% for xGF and HDCF% |

I honestly think you're onto something. If they did the unthinkable and limited his games to maybe 55-60, it may pay help him and the team in the long-run...but they won't because reasons. |

Time to trade Crosby while he still has value. Could probably get at least a 2nd and a B- prospect for him. |

Was there any need to play Letang just short of 25 mins last night in a preseason game, his first game in months? I don't think so. EK was just under 20 mins. Neither saw a second on the PK.

You never see Crosby go half speed like that. It was really strange to watch. The whole team for the most part.....which is good. DOC seemed to be the only player who was working hard.
The only thing really stood out was how precise EK was with his breakout passes. Kept hitting guys in full stride. Going to be some breakaways this season.

On the radio, they said letang had already played 20mins @ the 2nd intermission. Didn’t watch much of the game, but yeah, seems pretty dumb

Hahah yeah there were some instances of the pass being so good the forward wasn't ready/expecting it and fumbled it.

I thought that line looked exactly like 3 guys who haven't played a lot together. I don't think it is really easy to play with Geno until you figure out his tendencies. He was all over the place last night.

Its Letang. He was flying out there. That was just a drop in the bucket for him. |
