Idk, it's also not relevant. I'm talking about in a scenario where an injury frees up a roster spot.

I agree they wont waive him till they absolutely have to, but eventually if they have to choose between signing Kane and waiving bryson that's probably an easy call for them lol.

Of course on Kane vs. Bryson or Stillman.

They've painted themselves into a corner by inactivity and being scared to be aggressive.

I mean, I thought they didn't give a poop about UPL one bit, right?

I don't think view him highly, and I haven't seen or heard anything that would make me think any differently.

I do think they are timid and I think when Spencer Martin gets claimed off waivers, that basically makes UPL a roster lock.

Big time timid, and trying to keep all their toys with an incredibly insular approach to building a team.

Extremely difficult to have success that way.

I guess it's the CAR model that Karmanos maybe brought over. Cause off the top of my head the lead up to their success was mostly just doing this, right?

Although signing Kane would be totally off base so im not sure.

Wasn't Martin claimed by CBJ earlier today...?

Yeah, and he's probably worse than UPL. So if he's someone who can't get through waivers I doubt the Sabres will risk running Luukkonen through.

Could be with Carolina, but they had to begin looking outside the ORG a few seasons ago, and they've had trouble getting over the hump.

Who is dealing with G injuries, other than TB? I have no idea.

He is? His numbers in the AHL the past 2 seasons don't indicate that.

Forgot about them. They just need a backup, so taking their favorite waiver wire guy is a good option....that's a problem.

The VAN reporter that said CBJ was interested in martin (before he was claimed) also said COL and TB were interested.

We're talking about a 28 year old with worse numbers than UPL. I just can't see a scenario where he wouldn't get claimed.

They should be working out a trade but I'm told those are like, super hard to make.

Think I remember Toronto have 2 backup goalies claimed a few years ago. Things can get funny in a hurry.

A UPL trade next week would be an encouraging change of approach. Hope they are talking. I hate the idea of 3G.

Yeah the McElhinney debacle, was that the same year they signed sateri from finland and lost him too?

More teams are carrying 3 goalies and in theory it'd make sense with the Starter being a rookie but at this point it's less stability and just an extra body I don't trust.

"what if Levi falters early on" okay and the duo that sunk the team last year is supposed to be my reassurance?

We both know they're keeping all goaltenders on the NHL roster.

Wish I could get away with telling my bosses that work is tough as the reason for not getting more done.

The problem is they are not carrying 3 goaltenders because they don't believe in Levi.

They're doing it because they were too chickenpoop to pull the trigger on a real move.

Expert at having conversations, laughable at actually taking action and being decisive.

I get the frustration, but which goalie move that actually happened would you have wanted in place of what's already here?

The only one that came to mind was Talbot, and I doubt you get him to sign here instead of LA if he has to fight it out with Comrie for the 2nd spot.

Why are we limited in what could happen to only what did happen?

Not my job to be doing deep dives on player analysis and finding options, then taking action on them.

That's their job, and I'm not accepting the excuse of things are hard and nobody else did much, so what can we do commentary that is out there.

They took the passive, inaction route because they are totally married to Levi and they hope they can squeeze out a reasonable number of starts from the Comrie/UPL tandem to fill the gap.

Because I don't know what else was actually out there. For all I know they were prepared to give up the farm for hellebuyck and he simply wasn't available.

A bunch of players we thought for sure were moving are still where they were last year.

If it comes out that teams just werent willing to meet a reasonable price that's one thing. But if I offer Savoie and Kulich for Hellebuyck with no extension and WPG says no because they need to make a run to 8th Idk what more to do with that. Other GMs can be dumb too.

I think 31 GM's have Levi starting in the AHL this year, injuries aside.

If that's true, a buyout was a completely reasonable move.

Why would you not just send him to Rochester at that point? No need to mess with the cap next season

Plenty of teams will start with less than 23. It's really not all that bold.

How many of them with ~$9M(with 23) in cap space though?
