I didn't use the word worthless, I used the term low end. That deal was a prove it, to continue to improve. His trajectory was up at that point. What was he worth?

Because his better comparables went to florida and st louis, and one of them was a 2nd round pick and a pile of rocks.

That's value for an organization that relies on the draft. It's relative pending the teams situation, for Buffalo, Olo and company at this point are more valuable as futures than putting on a Sabres jersey. This training camp is proving more and more each day.

Minimizing the situations is fine, I identified this problem over a year ago, it hasn't leveled out or reduced, it has grown and no one has any idea what direction the GM is going.

Heading into year 4 the entire hockey world is in limbo with what they see as a team with a ton of potential coupled with multiple questions. The hype is great, the questions need to be answered before anyone takes this team seriously.

well that couldn't be farther from the truth. he's been painfully patient and has veered off course maybe a few degrees in the past 3 years.

Oloffson is one of multiple questionable signings, specifically $ amount, some like to brush it off due to term, but at the end of the day they are bad deals.
- washedup20

Sure, VO is a bad deal for the money but as I've said with other deals they aren't really stopping them from doing anything. They have 8 million in cap at this point and his 4.75 is fine in that. If he was signed at 3 million and we saved 1.75 the cap still doesn't matter and we're not going from a late round pick to a mid round pick. The can still retain salary and ship him off for 2.375 and could even do a 3 team trade to get less if some super cash strapped team really wanted him. Problem is no one really wants him.

I'm not defending the deal at all, but I'm not sure it's worth worrying about at this point since he will be irrelevant sooner than later

I'm trying to make the point that trading UPL after his wj win, which would have been horrible asset management, and trading olofsson prior to his contract, both would have been counter-intuitive unless the team employed a legitimate psychic.

Ok, so what is the plan for this season for the NHL club. The development of prospects is only a fraction of the job.

True, but you have to find someone who wants him. We talk daily about how he has 1 positive attribute and nothing else, why would other teams want that? Who is paying for that? We have some garbage we need to get rid of and no one really wants to buy it

this really isn't the overarching point i was trying to make. frankly i don't really care about praising or bashing, i care about wins.

im just on a rant about how we seemingly missed out on these franchise altering trades that the gm should have had to foresight to make at certain specific points in time. it's like forced bashing.

Girgensons - Krebs - Okposo

Interesting that Krebs hasn't even got a look with a top 9 guy.

- Lunaion

This should be the 4th line during the regular season as well.

Krebs fits well on that line IMO

the point of this season, as stated by the coach, the gm and the players, is to win. they've said it enough to even give broads a hard on.

whether you agree that this can be accomplished or not based on their personnel is yours, and mine, subjective feelings. They think they can, and personally that's the mindset I want for this year.

At the time of UPL's win we didn't have much else as far as goaltending. Realistically we didn't have much until Levi signed and that was late last year, I believe after the trade deadline. So the only real time to trade him since we've had a better option in place has been this off season. His value at this time is what it is.

I think it's relevant as there will be tough choices to make soon and Adams hasn't proven he's been one to pull the trigger on someone early.

He will need to decide what prospects don't have a future here and move on while they have value

I have no doubt about everything you just said and I truly hope he has the sack to make the necessary moves, and the group intelligence to make the right ones.

Yes it is, the roster is at full capacity and has multiple over paid under performing assets on it, with potentially equal or greater waiting in the system for a promotion.

It limits FA as agents/players see a full roster.

Also reduces leverage for Adams to move any of these peices which even fans see as equal to a bag of pucks....what happens when 1st round picks start playing like olo, does adams hold onto them until they are worth a bag of pucks because......hope?

What free agent were we going to get that said "damn, Oloffson is there so now I can't go, otherwise I was totally down to come to Buffalo"? This is a hypothetical issue that we're making. Every other day we're talking how Kane might be coming here and he plays VO's position and would take his time on the power play, none of those mention VO as the main sticking point.

This is a molehill and we're trying to measure it to call it a mountain.

Well put, having press conferences to say you tried to improve and this is the team that is equal to or better than any option he says he looked into should be an eye opener for most, instead people eat it up, like Adams over value piece's until its too late.

Vo is an example and a good one as they signed him to a 2 year contract then sat him and then his 1st offseason post signing discuses being traded only to stay due to injury.....it's not a black and white scenario, it's a compounding issue that is growing in the organization.

But it's not, he falls off this year. It's not a big deal if he leaves for nothing and it's not a big deal if you waive him. Teams do it all the time.

Now, moving forward, we have assets that are not just 7th round guys with 1 attribute and yes, we have to be smarter about those. The same idea that VO doesn't matter doesn't follow when you're talking about Rosen, Kulich, Ostlund, etc. You invested real assets into those, they cannot leave for nothing. The 7th round guy, I mean hey it is what it is.

What does Olo's draft position have to do with anything? He is a 20+ goal scorer in the NHL, that is real.

Of all the players you named, he is the only one who has produced in the NHL, your comparing potential of prospects to real NHL play, I don't know why that connection is made. Regardless of draft position, especially with how long Olo has been in the NHL, players need to be managed appropriately, Olo has been mismanaged, their are others as well.

The Sabres have a history of bad asset management, prior to and during Adams tenure.

Adams paid 3 years of Dahlin and others careers to build up that prospect pipeline, that cannot be ignored.

Correct and I was going to mention him in the “waited too long” on if he doesn’t take a nice step this year

Although if he is their future 4C they can remedy it by signing him to a friendly term deal like a Jarnkrok type

Kozak can take that spot next year on even a cheaper deal.
