Am I the only one that think Mike Rupp will nail this role?

No, he'll be good. A good blend of ex-player and broadcaster. He'll eventually end up being the permanent color guy, I'd imagine.

Lmfao 🤣. Although instead of Jays telestrator I wouldn't mind the advanced stats between periods.

I think the analytics would be great for a post game show, and maybe a touch in the intermissions because anyone who sticks around for post game shows likely wants to learn more about the team/game. Sprinkling it in during a broadcast can maybe work if it's not highly nuanced conversations but more as additional stats to look at. I think if they start discussing them on broadcast, you're going to lose people.

A lot of stat graphics are shown throughout a game, usually between faceoffs, why not toss some analtyic ones of them up there along side the old fashioned ones?

I have to say though Ive noticed some stats such as xGF being shown, or mentioned, on some Canadian broadcasts. I remember the Sens GM talking about how the Sens were near the tops of xGF but not scoring enough on Hockey Night in Canada during a game's broadcast.

NHL.com has been showing them in their stats section for a few years now as well.

I think that's fine, I think the Red Wings broadcast shows them too and even credits naturalstattrick.com for the data but I think when the color guys start discussing them, that's where they are going to get lost. You thought Mears was boring? Wait till you hear someone try to explain xGF lol

Oh, I agree with all of that hahaha.

Also, I just went to NHL.com and I could of swore they had analytical stuff there last season but now I can't find it.....perhaps I dreamt it....

they have it, but they use their own version of them, calling them like SAT's and what not.

Yea exactly, I think the intermission and post game would be good. Even some pregame too.

Wait....there's preseason games this weekend?? I didn't realize so soon. This revelation just gave me a chubby.... Full on hard on won't commence until October 10th, though. Sid the Man vs Connor the Kid.

My prediction to this season is the Pens get off to a slow start, not just the team overall, but the Jake-less Sid, new EK and Smith, year older Geno and Tanger...they all have slow starts and medias and opposing fans hop all over it like a fat kid on a Smartie....

I feel the opposite. I think they'll start hot raising expectations. Then their age will show and probably some injuries that will slow them down. Give the fans a chance to say "if only we were healthy" ignoring how unlikely that is for this group.

I feel the same except I don't think they will completey flame out. Jarrys health will be the most important.

This is the most likely outcome. Hopefully they find a way to not burn the older guys out during the season so they still have something left at the end.
