I just love the fact two teams got together a few weeks ago to discuss a blockbuster trade but with no names mentioned, had to be a great convo |

Ownership wants to win this season. Trading Lindholm now for Nylander doesn't make sense since it makes the team worse. Lindholm's only getting traded if they're bad or (hopefully) mediocre at the deadline.
Trading Hanifin is the only move that makes sense since they already have 6 top 4 defencemen. - Squeaky
Didn’t realize Calgary is in a win now mode! They seem to be missing some pieces for that. Nylander and lindholm could be a great match but don’t think they have the pieces to make that happen, and still be competitive. Not sure Hannifin for Willie straight up is enough, in fact, it’s just not! |

The issue here is Lindholm is a center. Who does Toronto have to send back that will fill that hole for Calgary? Nylander on the wing, who replaces him then for Toronto. Pieces have to fit somewhat here. The defence swap is a wash and would be fine but..
Toronto would be looking at adding a center, a winger to replace Nylander, and add a defenceman
Calgary would add a winger, need replace Lindholm up the middle, and get a dman out of it.
Now balance out the cap etc.
I think it is a bit of a tall order but not impossible, just seems like there may not be the best of fits here. |

Hanifin would instantly become the Leafs 2nd best D man and he makes 2 million less than Willy. In what world is a top pairing Dman not worth a #1 RW who makes 2 million more than said D man?
Leafs fans really need to look at the quality of their blueline and do a reality check! |

Leafs fans and the fans of all the 31 other teams know that Hanifin for Nylander is massively lopsided in favour of the Flames. Hanifin is barely a top pairing defenceman. He's a passable 2-3, and there isn't really one aspect that he excels at except playing a lot of minutes.
Weird things have happened but the Hall for Larsson trade is still mocked and Larsson was a more desirable option at the time than Hanifin is.
The rumour going around earlier this summer was it would take Hanifin and Backlund, Calgary retaining 50% on both, to get Nylander. |

This logic is pretty stupid!
Just because Hanifin slots in as a top pairing on a team with a mediocre D, doesn't mean he is a top pairing NHL D man. Hanifin at best is a 4 on an NHL team with a good D and Willy is not getting traded for a 4D.
Calgary fans really need a reality check on their players values! |

Hanafin is a risk for the Leafs because he has all but let it known that he prefers to play for a US based team. Nylander has publicly said he wishes to resign in Toronto….just that the Leafs can’t pay him what he’s looking for. If you’re the Leafs and guaranteed to lose Willy or Hanafin for nothing after this season whom do you choose. |

For me personally a better ho key trade would be Dobson and maybe an expiring contract ($3.5 range) coming back for Nylander and some going back to balance the cap |

Do you think the Islanders want to trade Dobson? Lou would be crazy to do that. |

If im a Leafs fan and expect to contend this year and I look at my blueline, I know it aint near good enough to be confident in the eastern conference.
Maybe Hanifin isnt the guy but him and Pesci are the only top guys available and they wont be had for cheap.

Hannifin is not a number 2 d man! Reilly isn’t a number one either! Reilly is a number 2 Dman and Hannifin is a 3-4. End of story! You don’t trade a 40 goal scorer for a 3-4 dman. Puleeez. |

It's embarrassing you can't figure this out for yourself.
Leafs sign Nylander to an 8-year deal, and then it's a three-way trade with the Islanders and Flames.
Oh, and the Leafs are still interested in Marek Svatos.

I wonder if the preliminary talks hit a snag when Toronto insisted that Pageau be included in the deal. We'll give you Nylander, but you somehow have to acquire Pageau first, since we're pretty desperate to add a $5M bottom 6 centre to help our PK. The Flames then assumed it was just a prank call. |
