Especially considering he's playing with two former all-stars

- Hank Balling

So he didnt play with a 20+ goal scorer and a 50+ pt player? Just the two you guys decide to mention? Yes they should have been able to pot some gimmies. Krebs put himself on the 4th line with his play when hes with better players.

The overwhelming majority of his minutes were with 28 + 21. I have no problem with him playing that role per se, but he's absolutely not going to put up points with Gus and Dad. That's just the reality

To be able to fold like this is worth $2.5mm alone.

Yes cause he sucked away from them. And has yet to prove he should be playing up in the lineup.

I mean his biggest moments as a Sabre has been him trying to chuck knucks.

Well as much as he falls, could be a opportunity for him later on. Shouldn't be to hard to get a exemption as much as he trips over his own feet.

He hasn’t put up points away from them.

He also flat out wasn’t good on the PP when given the chance.

I really hope I’m wrong about him but I don’t see the offensive upside others do.

It’s not unique for players like him to settle into 3/4C roles

Peyton Krebs supporters have a common case of prospects brain.

He was a 1st rounder therefore he has to be really good on offense and has a ton of upside

Sometimes it’s just not there

He had pretty good corsi numbers in a small sample size with Quinn and Peterka -

36 minutes played, 3 GF, 0 GA, 55% CF

He had 425 minutes with the Larry twins and that trio managed 11 points.

I agree - it's very likely to me that he tops out at L3 and that's fine. I'm just saying the data seems to indicate that there's at least somewhat more offensive upside when he's not with 28 + 21. I also have no problem with using him there but the reality is that he's just not going to get points while playing dump and cycle with those two

Curious how they cobble together a 3rd line this season.

Would anyone be shocked if Mitts, Jost, VO + Girgs, Krebs, Okposo was the bottom 6 again? Just swapping C's wouldn't be all that exciting.

occam's razor assembly:

Peterka-Cozens-VO/Kulich
Greenway-Mitts-Kulich/VO
Girgs-Krebs-Okposo
Jost

You believed in Mitts, dislike Krebs, yet they are a carbon copy of one another if you look at their first few years in the league

If you were GM, how would you handle the roster situations?

What are your plans for:

NHL:
Krebs
Greenway
Mitts
Olo
Joker
UPL

AHL:
Murray
Weisbach
Cederquist
Rosen
Kulich
R Johnson
Russians

Prospects about to play pro:
Ostlund?
Savoie
Benson
Lindgren

There is a large list of on the fence players as well.

IMO this approach allowed a small window of high value from these players, that window is closing this season and the Sabres still do not have a plan that I can see that maximizes these assets.

Why wouldn’t another GM just wait out Adams and take these players/prospects for pennie’s on the dollar?

Hard to argue with the results was in the original comment.

I am wondering what are the results worth celebrating big over?

They've built tremendous depth, but most of it is based entirely on promise and potential.

Quinn and Peterka still have a lot to prove before they can be classified as big wins.

They certainly were not big drivers on the team last season.

If they were even a little bigger drivers last season, the team likely makes the playoffs.

Overall, the question about how the team is managed comes down to this: Can the Sabres end up being a top level team in the league while having an isolationist mentality and approach?

I don't think they can.

- kingcong39

Quinn absolutely drove play last year, Peterka was hit or miss.

As a line with Cozens, they put up very good results and actually drove the bus during March tbh with you.

Quinn’s Achilles injury casts doubt I guess but couldn’t necessarily have been anticipated.

Peterka I think is trending well though.

Idk, it happened to Vinnie last year. I'm interested to see the Donnie/VO dynamic. Donnie has shown he's willing to bench VO for stretches so it'll be interesting to see if they give him a chance to take Quinn's spot to start or if he's in the press box

Mitts + VO + X, this time it'll work!

VO has a lot to fight for in a contract year. Curious to see which version we get. He usually thrives in early season hockey, with less contact and plenty of space on the PP.
