Same reason they got Epenesa, Basham, and plenty of other players: Beane is mid at best at drafting. The amount of wasted picks, and wasted early picks, is too damn high. You get a corner in the 1st round he damn well better be a starter his second year. You draft a guy like Basham in the second when your offensive line is hot garbage you hope the guy can perform. Beane does a lot of good but drafting is not his strong suit.

Beaner is a good GM, but he's been very hit or miss with his early picks. Needs to get better, but his later round picks have really hit and have made some of his drafts look better than they were.

I'm not arguing it isn't. Everyone saw that the Lions were no pushovers last year. They got some breaks and took advantage.
