If your stick is tied up, any kicking motion in response to that is defensive, since you are being attacked by an opposing player. It isn’t desirable to kick a 3 inch saucer with a 1/4 inch stilt and no person in their right mind would do it unless it was in response to the puck not doing/going where it was expected to or, the apparatus for handling that object was obstructed in some way.

It’s a reactionary move. This isn’t soccer. What happens when a player decides to stomp down on the puck and slide his skate over the goal line?

- Jet Jaguar BD

You're really going to make a stand on this hill, huh?

I have to throw my $.02 in and mention that kicking the puck would only be defensive if you are kicking it out of the possession of the opposing team. If you are kicking the puck to maintain possession / progress forward / attempt a goal - it is definitively an offensive movement. We can agree to disagree but I believe in the court of popular opinion you will find yourself on the wrong side of the argument.

I see what you're saying, as a reaction to the stick being tied up. You're put into a defensive position.

What tage was saying though, led me to believe the " kick" would indeed score more goals.

Which is an offensive position IMO

Both sides could be right....

So Samuelsson on the 3rd Pair, balances the pairings out if Clifton and Joker can handle there assignments.

- Buff36

So Dahlin played 20:55 ATOI at EV.
-Do we expect Clifton to increase his EV ATOI from 16:26 he played last season?
-If so, do we also expect him to increase his ATOI on the PK from 1:18? BTW, Clifton was brought in, in part to improve the PK...so we should expect those minutes to increase IMO...dies he get to the 2:45 PK ATOI that Samuelsson played last year on the PK?

Combined these ATOI increases are 5:56 ... that is a lot to expect.

They have to be planning to mix and match the pairings..should be interesting to watch it unfold.

That's nice. Now take the home town haircut and lets move on. Leaving it up to your agent is going to (frank) this team you "love" playing for.

Defense wins championships :p

But you can turn the tide of war while on the defensive.

But how many goals would really be scored off kicking? It’s a lame argument and wouldn’t fo anything but cheapen the game.

Man, I usually mostly lurk and don't engage folks here, for a number of reasons. Among those reasons are the ease of which most get butthurt when someone gives them a jab or, God forbid, uses logic to point out perceived flaws (or emotional overreactions) in their arguments. I really did not expect you, of all people, to be so sensitive. Duly noted.

I am finding it kinda exciting getting a rise out of HB-ers who I see having a history of being, shall we say, forceful. In your case, erratic would be a better word...maybe spirited if one was being generous.

Now, if you really want to tickle your taste buds, I make a killer marinade for flank steak. Get some good quality soy sauce, about a quarter cup, and whisk in 3 tablespoons olive oil. Add 1 Tbsp rice wine vinegar and 3 Tbsp brown sugar...I prefer dark but light is ok. Then 1 teaspoon each ground fresh ginger, oregano, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper. No need for salt cuz of the soy sauce. Soak that steak at least 4 hours but no more than 24, pat it dry, and grill over medium-high for 6 minutes per side (for a 2-3 pound flanker). Flank has to be medium rare, no more. Let rest and cut against the grain. The juice and blood that ends up on the platter is liquid friggin gold.

Kicking at a puck is not strictly a "defensive maneuver". A player's skates are on the ice along with the puck and stick. How many times a game does a player kick the puck forward?

- LandlordTom

Meh, I use pork and decrease the amount of ginger. Also, using Amino Acids is better for you.

I am expecting multiple shifts nearly every game of Dahlin and Power together at even strength.

I'd say tage had a good point.

Guys tie up sticks easily on defense. Kicking would be a staple around the net.

It would allow way more goals and enhance the game IMO.

Hmmm, this is beginning to sound like the Ryan Johnson debates.

It will work out. I admire Dahlin sticking to his guns on a shorter than max term deal..its a smart move. And he can still give a hometown discount...I wouldn't expect a crazy discount though.

You can't allow a player wearing razor sharp blades to make kicking motions at a puck, especially near the net where a goalie would be in a very vulnerable position. It is a good rule and one that should never be changed for player safety sake. End of story if you ask me.

Yup.
I just wish they had acquired a true top 4 Dman...but, I suspect that strategy would be very effective.
IMO, they need to upgrade Joker.

Think they've always feared the injuries that could come from kicking at loose pucks in the crease. It's dangerous recipe.

EDIT: little late, agree with Hatboro

What's your opinion of MMA? I really like the elbow to the head, especially when the full force of the aggressors body is involved and the point of contact is direct near the temple. It is very effective.
