I wouldn't go that far.

He's made himself a good living with this site I would bet. I don't see that as exploitation. I just wish he wouldn't make stuff up sometimes.

fact or opinion Cliff? Any links to back up your claim?

Not unreasonable. Foegele & Ceci are nothing more than Edmonton cap dumps, the real deal is Broberg and a 1st (late round pick for sure). Flyers might have to send back a 3rd or something more for that to be palatable but that would give Edmonton a better top 4 although Sanheim prolly doesn’t help them keep the puck out of their own net and if I’m not mistaken, Nurse and Ekholm are LHD too.
- mikeyo27

Actually Ekholm is left handed and has played both sides in his career.

While I’m sure he’d waive his NTC to
A. Play on a good team, and
B. Get away from the God Emperor Torts,
I don’t see the Flyers retaining salary for 8 years, nor how the Oilers can fit him under the cap.

I guess the Flyers could take back a contract with less term, it’s the only way I see this happening.

Accountability dude, learn it.

Hockey dude, learn it.

After all, the Flyers are a factory of drafting and developing good two way defenseman. They churn them out like crazy.

- MJL

A new Era and new Standard have Lifted Off! Haven't you been watching Youtube? Sanheim certainly is not an example of a good two-way defenseman. Again I ask you, what does Sanheim do really well?

Hanifin probably won't extend. Though I agree, even renting Hanifin for the season and unloading him at the TDL is better than keeping Sanheim on a rebuilder with that contract. CGY at least has a reason to consider Sanheim as opposed to EDM which would be among the last teams that would be interested in him.
- jfkst1

This actually makes sense. Calgary gets a solid D who is local, and locked up for 8 seasons at what will probably 4/5 Dman money by the last few years of the deal. The Flyers get a guy they can flip at the deadline for futures and future cap space.

The Oilers are -390K in the hole cap wise. Even if the Flyers took back Ceci's contract it would only cover about 1/2 of Sanheim. I just don't see how this would work unless a 3rd team was involved and maybe a player like Evander Kane was part of the deal.

Hanifan is a much better defenseman than Sanheim, so why on Earth would Calgary do this deal? Why wouldn't they just resign Hanifan?

Hanifin has told CGY he won't re-sign and wants to play for an American org. I don't think I would call him "much better." The problem Conroy will have, is he supposedly wants roster players back, and not futures. Which is illogical given most teams that will want Hanifin are contenders that don't want to give up roster players and would prefer to trade futures. Maybe Briere adds to make the deal more palatable. But at least Conroy would get back a quality replacement player that is likely to stay long term.

Name the last 5 good 2 way defensemen that the flyers developed and the years they played.

Sanheim has hit his ceiling.

On paper it’s a good hockey trade. I’d say these guys are pretty equivalent in terms of age, size and dollars. As a Flames fan, if you don’t want to be here, go ahead and go but Sanheim would be a nice piece as a replacement option.

I don’t think Hanafin is much better…minority at best. He doesn’t want to be in Canada so he won’t resign at the end of this year. Treliving left us in shambles, Conny has some work to put this all back together but can’t let good young’s walk like our last GM did.

You think that Ristolainen is a good player and the Flyers best defenseman. Enough said!

Edmonton Gets:
Sanheim (8yrs @ $6,250,000)

Philly Gets:
Foegele (1yr @ $2,750,000
Ceci (2yrs @ $3,250,000)

Broberg
2024 1st

-----

Not a bad trade.

The first won't be high but who cares.

Sanheim is a solid NHL player that would KILL in EDM.

With that said, getting him off the books would be a smart move as would be eating $$$ to get more picks for the other two.

Broberg's upside would be "plus business" for the Flyers.

I'd do this deal.

Of course Briere would do it. It's a horrific trade for EDM. They have zero need for Sanheim and the contract is a massive risk.

Risto would squash Sanheim and then take his lunch. Sanheim could not carry Risto's skates!

So the Flames are -200K in the hole cap wise. Just giving up Hanifan for Sanheim would not work cap wise. The Flames would have to give up another player. I think the Flyers would have interest in Dillon Dube, who is still only 25 years old and a former 2nd round pick. So Hanifan and Dube for Sanheim would work cap wise and both players are either RFA or UFA next season which works for the Flyers rebuild.

At this point I think Sanheim will waive his NTC to get out of Philly and away from Torts, and being closer to home would be nice.

Briere has to add. Hanifin is at least as valuable as Sanheim straight up. Dube is as valuable as Hanifin.

Sanheim and a 2nd for Hannifin and Dube
Seems about right, Philly gets the better player, flips Hannifin at the deadline for a 1st and a prospect.

Terrible value for Conroy. He's better off flipping Hanifin himself than getting Kyle Beach'd.
