Need a shutdown 3rd line, and a 4th line of hammers. Period. - Grinder47
Yea, because that's worked so well for us. |

No. Dubas just signed a complete bottom six designed to be defensively responsible and the coach is going to have them playing a run and gun offensive style. Jeff Carter is still the likeliest candidate to put up numbers in the bottom six. Long way from “there”. - Grinder47
This wasn't the "there" I meant...however what you said isnt all that far fetched in my mind hahaha

I've been imagining the revamped D being a lot more run and gun and the new bottom 6 much more defensively responsible for the run and gun D......but we shall see how this all shakes out. 9 brand new players is a lot to get acclimated and to have hit the ground running so to speak.... |

Tomorrow for us. I'm not ready for summer to be over because I hate wearing socks and pants haha...and while our Autumns are always really nice here, I wouldn't mind if we could just skip it and go right to snow and ice and all the fun that brings.

Given that we know Hextall and Sully didn't talk and work together on the roster, and now that we know that Dubas and Sully do talk, it confuses me to why you would look to the players acquired, and think Sully is going to try and get them to play run and gun to score.

He did make Brian Dumoulin an offensive juggernaut his last two seasons here. Haha.
The bottom six has one job and that's to take draws in the defensive zone, get the puck out of the zone and get off the ice as fast as you can. Offence isn't in their job description. |

I don't think either one is a top six, but if I had to pick one to play on that line, I'd go O'Connor as the third wheel who does the dirty work. His AHL career he did have 27 goals and 73 points in 73 games so he's not without some skill.
Nylander in WBS had 39 goals and 80 points in 99 games. A little higher on goals per game but lower on points in same period. - Tojo.
Interesting. O'Connor with a better AHL career than Nylander so far. I hope both can EARN regular spots with us. |

Pitlick should get a chance, too many are writing him off already, but he has scored some at the NHL level. I agree with DOC over Nylander, but wouldn't mind if the best two of them were both on the third line. - Tojo.
I find it crazy people just scratching the guy right away just to sign Tatar. From what I've seen Pitlick has some wheels. |

Give Pitlick a chance. He’s so good one of the worst teams in the league dropped him as a cap dump. |

Because that fits the narrative he likes to run with. Eller even said in his media time the coaches discussed his role and what's expected of him. Someone is mistaking run and gun hockey for just really bad defensive play by Carter. |

Dubas should be fired for cause for not signing Tatar/trading for Nylander yet. |

I can see Carter having a bit of a bounce back year if the bottom 6 can cohesively play as a unit how dubs foresees them. An upgraded defence should help everyone’s numbers on the team, and not having the corpse of dumo is just a plus for everyone, especially Carter. |

I dont necessarily think it. However, a lot of scenarios arent that far fetched in my mind haha. Like I said in a proceeding post, I imagine the revamped D will see a major uptick in production, taking a lot of chances, while the reconfigured defensive bottom 6 will help cover for a lot of it. Thats my hopes and dreams...but...sometimes Sully just gonna Sully. Now, as for production from bottom 6, it really isnt that far fetched that Carter out produces some of the new additions, even if marginally. We're not looking at a whole lot of finishing ability down there.

Creating a hockey roster is absolutely about who's a better hockey player, what the hell are you even talking about? lol

Sully only knows how to coach the 2016 roster that had Phil kessel on the 3rd line and a 20 goal 4th line center. He’s been coaching that team since and it’s a bigger part of this teams short comings than anything else. But it gets ignored for some reason. |
