After all, it's the Rangers way

You are making the dangerous assumption that we will have put ourselves into a better cap situation by then!!

Fantastic deal!!
2 Rocket Richards, Calder and a Heart. More goals (299) than any other NHL players since he entered the league during the 2016-17 season, including the likes of Ovi, McD, & Draisaitl, despite having a “down” year statistically on 2022-23. On top of that he….wait this is not the Auston Matthews signs contract extension blog??

Nonononono no NO!!

Matthews has a "HART". He most definitely does NOT have a "heart".

Has nothing to do with losing faith...Any GM would take him at that salary its all about a gentleman's agreement not to poach each others RFAs. What is he 21 22 yrs old and he has been one of Rangers leading 5 on 5 players the last 2 yrs. Career killer at 22????
- hfc355

A gentlemen’s agreement is the other possibility. But if that exists it’s lame and the GMs aren’t doing their best to win.

WRT the career killer comment - I stand by it. Let’s say Laf could have moved somewhere that plays him top six ice time and gives him a top PP role. He’d have a better chance to reach his ceiling there than buried on NYRs third line.

Maybe it all works out for him and if it does every GM in the league should kick themselves

Kids a bust!! They’ll be regretting not picking Stutzle until the sun blows up.

Lafreniere outscored Jarvis, Quinn and Raymond at 5v5. He isn't a franchise player but if he's a bust what are they?

First a player has to sign the offersheet and the team needs to have their own draft picks. Habs and Canucks 2 teams interested in LAF don't have their 2nd round picks so they would have to go the Kotkaniemi 6 mil route which is too much. A team like Buffalo could afford to do it but then that exposes Power and Dahlin to offersheets next summer in retaliation.
