I'm pretty sure it was the old ownership who announced that. They also removed his likeness from the arena after he went to Philly because Shero screwed the pooch
- burgh4life87

(frank) don't remind me of that one lol. That was Shero's second biggest blunder, his first was not firing Bylsma after the super team failure against Boston.

What was the coach I think before him? Johnson? Bland as all hell.

Mike Johnston was between Bylsma and Sullivan. Mike Johnston and Ron Hextall can go kick rocks.

It was strained for sure, but time healed that. Hopefully FSG wouldn't get in the way of retiring his number. (Don't see why they would).

Oh yea, that’s right. I agree, they both can pound sand. He was so bland and showed no emotion on the bench no matter what was happening.

He went from Juniors to the NHL. He was in over his head....which wasn't his fault. JR hired him. That's where the fault lies.

I do kind of remember the Pens got turned down by a couple of guys. Imagine that... How fvcking dumb do you have to be to turn down a team with Crosby, Malkin and Letang in their primes?

That’s a good point. I remember it was a reach at the time and couldn’t figure out why people were turning it down. JR wanted too much control? Who knows.

Yea that was super weird, you'd think they would jump at the job, they ended winning b2b cups a year and a half later lol.

When poop was bad he used to just tap Geno on the shoulder to go out there to score a goal lol.

Jags posed this back in May. Seems like a big hint.

I remember Pens ownership firing Shero first and then letting Bylsma dangle in the wind for a while. IMO, it was an ugly way of handling things. They needed to cut both those guys loose at the same time. There was speculation they wanted to prevent Disco from going to a division rival. I think he butchered that "era". Should have gift wrapped him to a rival.

Anyway... Maybe those guys didn't want to work for the ownership after that. Can't even remember their names. Pretty sure neither have HC jobs.

I'm of mixed thoughts about it. They are still literal kids in that league...and men too. However, I dont want fighting completely out of the game and these kind of moves will eventually lead to that IMO.

One of my best buddies in life was one of the best at ice here in my city when he was 16. He went to the Q for a year and ended up just being their enforcer/fighter. If they were going to dress him it was because they wanted him to F someone up hahah. Its just a little example of how crazy the talent pool is around the world for only like 600-700 NHL job openings. I've played ball hockey with Sid's linemate from the Q a few times, Sid stood in his wedding. He was drafted by the Bolts in 2nd round...He's f'n unreal to play with but he never ever made it up to the big show.

Even more reason to avoid drafting players from that league now.

Pens should of avoided Mario and Sid, for sure...

Jk...I know what you mean. Its by far the lesser league of the jr's.

Max Talbot put up 104 points in 69 games back in the Q's 2003/2004 season hahah

A kid from my hometown I played highschool with went made it to the AHL after Mery Hurst. He was running the power play in the ECHL but only got called up after doing well in a few scraps. He beat up Joel Vitale and as a member of the phantoms fought PL3 which was way above his weight class. He eventually finished his career playing in England while also getting a masters degree at the same time I believe.
