I do think they’ll hold their own and will definitely be able to eat the minutes they need to. The problem is that scoring goals in the NHL is hard and even the greats go cold for a while. At some point we’re going to need depth scoring and that’s just not what any of these players do. We’re gonna have to win games 1-0, 2-1. Obviously Karlsson helps this a ton so we’ll see how it plays out but ideally I’d like to have one forward that’s good at scoring goals on that third line.

So obviously the answer is to trade our last bad player (Carter) for their good player (W. Nylander).

Let's will this one into existence too.

Dubas might have some other things in mind now that he's gotten this mammoth deal, one that's been lingering since the draft, finally out of the way.... Or perhaps he's going to take a vacay with family for a week or two now haha. August is historically the quietest month for the NHL and roster movement, it's usually boring AF...this is a bonkers trade, no matter the time of year haha.

I'm not sure theres been many blockbusters like this in August in the history of the league...only one that comes to mind at the moment is when Gretzky was traded to LA. That was late into the summer. I can remember my 8 year older bro losing his mind about it. I was very, very young but still remember that day and all the buzz about it when it went down

That's the whole point of wanting EK for most of us. Entertainment. Exciting new toy for Sid and Geno to play with. I think most of us would agree this doesn't make them top contenders....but man, am I excited for opening night hahah... So many changes..

Cap friendly is saying we retained like $1.5 mil on Petry. Anything corroborating that? Kinda stinks if so.

EDIT: yeah the source is Friedman. So all said and done the Karlsson cap retention is a wash the first two years.

Yea for sure haha. Dumba will be a deadline pickup by someone. I still think if Zucker has another healthy season he may be back here at the deadline.

Zucker would actually be a really good fit on the third line given the identity Dubas has built into the bottom six.

We aren't winning low scoring games. We only played six games where the winning team scored 1 or 2 goals. If six is the over/under, I'm going under.

Where this bottom six is going to help is protecting leads in the third period. I believe we lead the league in blowing leads.

It would likely take someone being on LTIR to get him back, but he would definitely fit anywhere on the roster if that happens.

With that said I'm pretty pumped about Smith. He's a really good all around player and will help the pk a lot.

I don't see how they add anyone without it being dollar in dollar out and there isn't much fat trim.

Karlsson IS depth scoring, just from the back end. He's an upgrade in scoring over what was there so I'd say it's been addressed to a some degree. I can definitely see adding another depth scoring piece but the gap has certainly closed on what's needed with EK in the fold now.
