I see that Sproat Lake in Port Alberni was voted best lake in BC. I’ve never been. Anyone on here live there or familiar with it? Trying to plan a local “vacation” and thought Sproat Lake might be worth the visit.
Opinions? Is there another area in BC I should check out? Somewhere that I can drive to easily. |

I'd check the forestry web site first, pretty sure there's a new fire just outside of Alberni.
Ralph River at Buttle Lake is nice. Further north there is Link River outside of Port Alice. Cowichan Lake if you like crowds. |

I used to steelhead on the river right up to the outflow of the lake. Good fishing. That's all I can say because we stayed at Murphy's lodge. |

Know the area quite well, been there 3 times this summer already, it is beautiful. Are you camping, hotel? Do you have a boat? This all factors into what type of experience you are hoping to have.
Also Ralph River as mentioned by Marwood is very scenic as well, used to waterski with my drunken buddies there as a 18 year old.

CBC BC had a vote.
I guess they want more tourist traffic or something. |

Thanks, will check out the article, hope the tourists like lengthy waits in their vehicles, one lane alternating traffic at Cameron Lake. |

Between the crazy amount of tourists and fire hazards, I might have to wait until late August to early September to visit. When does the tourist numbers start to decline? |

After Labour Day, it's glorious, beautiful weather and way less people around.
Like Makita was saying, there are endless opportunities up and down the island depending on what you are looking for, from high end resorts to forest service campsites and sh itting in the woods. |

It will be more of a driving/road trip to visit some of the scenic spots I've heard so much about. I've done the typical Tofino trip and did some work for DFO up in kyuquot Sound to Brooks Peninsula. Spent some time in Telegraph Cove. Awesome area. But haven't seen much else.
Plus, I want to spend my money "locally". We have a beautiful Province and I've underappreciated it for far too long.

Nice lodge...
 - bloatedmosquito
Not bad at all. Every time we stayed there there were no other guests. Had the place to ourselves. Marylyn was a good host. I fished with her husband(at the time) on the Gold River as well. They all are extraordinary fishermen...
Edit: Iirc, that lodge was a display at the PNE before it was trucked over to the island. I stayed in another that was a cookie cutter exact same somewhere else as well but I can't remember which outfit it was. Maybe Stoney Lake Resort. |

So Troy Terry gets $7mx7. He's 25 years old, so not exactly a great comparison for Miller, but does Miller's deal look decent when put up against a 67 point player? 37 goals in 21-22 is great, but 23 goals this year is less great. |
