12th overall it's just keeping the puck out of the D zone and out of our own net.

Hughes-Hronek-Soucy-Cole is a much better start to our D core than last year.

Hopefully Myers can be moved for a couple decent 5-6 slot guys and continue to move on from the Old D core to the new.

When your defense and PK are as bad as the canucks, I don't think the scoring stats can necessarily be trusted. Once/if they're focusing on D, not cheating and and not trying to always outgun teams ... we'll see if the scoring pace maintains. My guess is it will not. Plus they've got a lot of goals the last few years in garbage time when the result has already been established.

not really sure what point you trying to make

so players goals don't count because the team was out of playoff contention? it is a stat, it doesn't matter or care if you trust it, it has been determined. and the defence is completely different from last year but you have already decided they are the worst based on last year, pretty closed minded thinking.

Sorry, to clarify garbage time I mean in an individual game ... not the tail end of the season. Games where we went down early and tended to cheat pretty hard offensively (JT Miller I'm looking at you).

I think our D has to be better than last couple years, I don't think it can be much worse. I just mean if Tocchet's system is to focus more on the details and defensive part of the game, I suspect offensive numbers will suffer a bit. We got in a lot of shootouts scoring more goals because we already gave up 4 or 5.

Tightening up D play will affect & lessen scoring. If successful on a consistent basis it’ll translate into more wins & less blown leads. What you didn’t allow for is when this happens is more scoring could follow when ops takes more chances to come back. Overall scoring won’t be the big issue. PP & especially PK are.
