The 2 years of a $5 mill cap hit is going to hurt. A lot. - Marwood
"2 years of 5 mil cap hit when the cap jumps" kind of hurt > "playing OEL on your team and having to watch him" kind of hurt

Yup. Just a brutal desperate move that set the franchise back another decade. Not a fan of the buyout either, equally as desperate. |

That's what I don't think some fans seem to get. Unless going hard sell-off and tank, these piddly little moves aren't going to move the needle much. There are absolute grenades in this lineup the last few years, and buying out OEL just changes the kind of grenade. |

OEL was more atom bomb than grenade. |

The Luongo 3 x 3 recapture penalty should be a good tune up for the 2 x 5. We will breeze right through it as if nothing happened. |

This is actually the best take on the buyout. Yes it hurts but a hell of a lot less than watching him and a horrible back end for the next four years.
The hockey was unwatchable last year and to see only the #11 draft pick out of the top 50 draft picks was terrible also. |

Are you saying Hronek will be another Guddy? The draft picks more valuable?
Or can he be the Hamuis type impact player that Canucks can have for all of his prime years?

Did I say that?
Hronek would need play more than 3 games for me to put him on a Guddy level trade. So far I have it at a Travis Dermott level trade, but he would need to play another 15 games to reach that status.

JTM was interviewed recently on Podcast and saw this take on Vancouver media response to him:
“…the question we'd all like to see answered is which media guys is miller referring exactly. i see we have a vote for thomas drance. that's probably not a bad guess. i've got a few guesses as to some others as well, based mostly on what they write/say. we need to get to the bottom of this with conjecture and speculation. it's only fair. perhaps a poll which we can slant. then some maybe a run-down of all the media guys and what their likelihood is of being one of the people miller is referring to. perhaps we could give each media person a letter grade based on how much we think miller should dislike them. we would of course have to compile some stats: how many trade miller articles vs how many keep miller articles (+/-); how many anti-miller mentions vs. pro-miller mentions (not sure who's going to compile these but that's call this stat "JT Morsi".) or we could just look at key elements like: who clucked the loudest during Deliagate? who took the most pleasure when miller was upbraided on HNIC? or do some linguistic forensic work to gauge and rate the tone of the language used to refer to miller. or analyze which stats the media person chose to reference when describing miller...”
Hilarious to imagine how perceptions can be played with and bias spurring reactions. |

Well asking if you were implying but it seems you have it rated low enough. Dermont cost less in trade so maybe that’s a compliment comparison lol. |

I really don't know how I will rate it in the end. Like I said I need more than three games to judge it.
So far I don't like it, my gut feeling is he is not happy to be playing in Canada, that said it does not matter what I think.
For the record I would have preferred to keep the picks and finish lower close to a top 3 pick but Willander looks like a great pick up.

I say draft picks would have been more valuable. I'm also sick of multiple iterations of nucks management not considering injury history enough. Ferland, Sutter, Poolman, Micheyev ... so many examples. I get injuries happen, but we seem to target guys with a lengthy past already ... or even injured at the time such as Hronek.
Even if he does well, we're much more than a Hronek away from having a respectable D core imo which would skew me to using the picks. |

He’ll be better than Hamhuis except in the hitting department, although he’s not afraid to throw around his weight. |

JT Miller LOVES the passionate fans, but on the Media/Market:
"It's toxic/negative out there, feels like everyone is always looking for something to grab onto."
"I have way too much pride to kiss the media's ass. I'd rather stir the pot."
"Can't stand some of them." |

Well okay 3 games was a taste of an injured guy who looked good. Thought Hronek played well on a bad team prior to trade. So there is that to go on too.
Detroit is no peachy place so don’t get the don’t like playing in Canada angle. Plus, Americans like it in Vancouver as for example JTM signed long term.

Yes draft picks always sound better because potential is attractive.
Note, Sutter developed injuries in Vancouver prior to that he seemed okay. But I get some of the frustration with this prone to injury history. Does Hronek really fall into that?
Well they drafted they signed and they traded for D. The D core is improving and Hronek adds to that picture. More picks could be more question marks, time and less impact. |
