yes cause only leafs players get concussions
Nobody doubt its BS here, except leafs fans..
but its ok, all teams are doing it...
untill they change the rules, why not ? - Xizord
There is no rule to be changed as long as there is a salary cap.
If they tighten it up teams will push players with broken bodies and concussions to play...we are headed the opposite of this direction.
Also you can not have it both ways...if we take more control away from teams and players then we need to take the control away from teams and players playing injured players in the playoffs. |

He's a moody headcase hockey player, with two Stanley Cups who played for the Penguins in goal and who's never going to the HOF.......reminds me of Tom Barasso.
My only question is - when a player is on LTIR....is the team still paying them out of pocket but they don't count towards the cap? Or is an insurance company paying this bill. Because if it's the later....that's where the pressure on the NHL will come from. I get a leak in my roof and I get a team of actuaries and adjusters descending on my property to find when my roof was installed, who installed it, where do they and their mother's live and so on... - Octavarium
ffs.
Murray has legit injuries.
You were probably one who made fun of the leafs for trading for a bandaid player thats always injured when they added him.
Whether a player wants to push through injuries is up to them.
Weber called it quits after pushing himself.
Its just simply a player who has a lot of injuries and is deciding to get healthy and earn the contract he signed in the process. Simple as that. Move on. |

Anybody who didn't call EXACTLY this when Murray was acquired must be new to this. Like, really REALLY new. - DarthProbert

he was simply placed on indefinite LTIR. a bunch of outlets have spiraled into "he won't play at all this season" when nobody said that. once Leafs get another injury to clear the cap space, he'll be healthy again. chances are he is not 100% and instead of being bought out, or demoted, he just chose to continue resting |

Best case scenario lmfao. Could you come across more like a daft Homer. - Mentalorgasm5
Sens fan here, and it *is* the best case scenario for the Leafs, that's why there's some consternation. That's called an assertion, not a value statement. Thanks for the constructive feedback though! Back under the bridge. |

This is not a binary outcome. You aren't healthy or injured. No pro NHL player is ever 100% healthy. Matt Tkachuk was deemed "healthy" in the playoffs despite having a broken sternum. If that was in November then he's injured. But in the Cup Finals he's healthy. So it's not a stretch for any player to sign off saying they have chronic back pain or knee pain or shoulder pain or concussion symptoms. They likely went to Matt and said:
1) We waive you to the AHL. Ride the bus.
2) We buy you out and this is the money you collect.
3) You go on LTIR. Collect a full salary. Rest your body. Maybe we activate you late in the year and send you to the AHL for conditioning. Either way, if you want to keep playing, nobody is going to offer you a lucrative contract anyway. So next year you hopefully sign on with someone for cheap and try to rebuild your career.
He went along with #3. Not that complicated. But I guess for some they see this in binary. How can he be healthy then and injured now? - Cooleus
Not sure why this is so hard to comprehend...and accept...for some.
Thanks.

It wasn't such a big deal when Carey Price completed a couple of years of an eight year $10.5M deal and he agreed with the Habs that he would go on a booze cruise to Robidas Island, was it? How about Weber?

I know you're likely trolling, but if not you're a complete idiot. How, exactly, would you suggest the Leafs are enticing him to go on LTIR? Are you suggesting they're somehow paying him under the table? If that was possible, why doesn't Matthews sign for league minimum and the Leafs pay him $20M per using the same creative accounting techniques?
Murray is in the last year of a huge overpay contract that he has in no way earned. If he wants to play in the NHL EVER again, he'll have to have a body of work to prove his worth. Why go on LTIR in a contract year?!?

yup, cause that never hapened in human history
Also the Matthews reference is plain stupid, kinda not the same light on both players AND not the same range of salary |

I'm sure NHL team finances are under VERY close scrutiny and that kind of thing would be incredibly frowned up.
Again, why would Murray jeopardize his entire future in the NHL, just to keep the Leafs happy when he clearly has no future with them. Makes zero sense.

There's a simple rule to be changed...A team should have to be cap compliant in the post season. It's absolutely ridiculous that the rules change let that.

Agreed everyone knew the risks, Leafs got half a season out of him.
If he's not Legit injured then he'll get hurt blowing his nose. Take the free money and fade away quietly before they change their minds. |
