Auston Matthews is worth much more than 14 million per year, and evebtually hovkey players aren't going to endlessly cuck themselves by perpetually taking less ! |
|
|
|
no, he is not worth more than McDavid and cap going up or not is irrelevant, % of cap is irrelevant, these salaries are getting to be worst than before the lockout that got the NHL a cap, remember to curb excessive player salary.... soon tickets will be 500$ each for the nose bleed sections |

Actually the whole world doesn't know that, those are predictions. Remember 3 years ago when the cap was suppose to jump up 4-5 million then it was just 1 million....
Nothing is guaranteed. - Glak18
This is especially true considering the financial calamity that ESPN and other sports stations are currently in. TV contracts are the primary source of revenue to any of the leagues and with the NHL dead last among the 4 major sports, guess who's going to get the short end of the financial stick. The cap implications at this point are pure conjecture. |

as long as people will pay the crazy amounts for tickets, tickets will keep going up.
It makes business sense. If arenas constantly sell out, then the ticket price is too low. |

As a Hawks fan, like Chicago 2015, Tampa 2021, and Vegas 2023. rigging the playoffs may be the only way Toronto can win a Cup soon

And how has Toronto "rigged" the playoffs?

What they will get in their next deal:
13.25 - Matthews
11.50 - Marner
9.750 - Nylander
What they deserve (based on what they've accomplished):
11.25 - Matthews
9.50 - Marner
9.25 - Nylander |

he is apparently willing to take less to keep the leafs contenders, wants 13.5 ya good luck with contending.. sign him to the 8 yr deal and watch him rot with no cup and no playoffs for yrs to come because of the trio being to greedy to think of the team first, marners is up in 2 yrs and nylander next yr this might be an utter disaster, mathew 13.5 marner will want a raise 12-13, Nylander wants 10-11?? would be as much for the 3 as it is for Marner Mathews and Nylander Tavares atm.. ya were screwed. - a1xfreakx13
but the obvious thing to do here is trade one of the three for a great D ? |

the last time ii went to an NHL game before April 2023 was back in 2010. the ticket prices are all based on supply and demand. the supply doesnt change, only the demand.. and until demand for tickets goes down, the ticket prices will keep going up.

I would love Tor to be cash strapped for another 10 yrs.
You can tell from your star players who actually cares about winning the cup vs those that want the biggest bank account. This is the reason the Devils will have a cup before Toronto. |

Either stars take team friendly deals or they don't win the Cup.
Has been proven true many times already.
Mathews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares have won nothing except regular season games.
At keast Kane and Toews got paid after, Kuch, Hedman, Point, McKinnon were all on team friendly deals.
McDavid not so much. |

If it was $12-14M the Leafs would have instantly agreed to that. Seriously. You can't view the absolute dollars, but instead as a percentage of the cap.
McDavid's deal accounted for 16.7% of the cap when signed. Let's say Matthews takes 16%, because I'm a notch below McDavid. That's $13.5M. But the whole world knows the cap is about to jump to $89M next year and then $93M the following year. So Matthews likely says I'll take 16%, but base that on $93M or $95M or something like that. So that's $15M. As a starting point.
Good thinking on $12-14M. I wonder why Treliving hasn't signed that yet?
 - Cooleus
How big is a "notch"?
In this example a notch is a lot more than 0.7%...

The crazy and made up "percentage of the cap" arguments that agents conjured up to fool the gullible GMs.
Cap is a fixed dollar amount, nit some mystical "Percentage".
Fortunately smarter GMs don't play this stupid game. |

Oh, that's how it works? Thanks for the insight.
Free agents never get paid more money then what better players have signed for in the past - that never happens! Got it!! |

I’d pay him 8x 14m. If he wants a 3-4 year deal at 14m he can screw off |
