Habs don't want to start the season on LTIR cap hell, they would prefer to stay under the cap with Price contract and put him on LTIR after the season starts. I wonder how they can find 3.5M of cap space...Hoffman 4.5M cap hit, Armia 3.4M

After signing Alex Newhook to a 4 year / $2.9M AAV deal, we now show the #GoHabsGo as being $3,509,166 above the ceiling based on 21 players on the active roster (12F-7D-2G) and 5 players on IR/LTIR.

Carey Price ($10.5 AAV) is also an LTIR candidate.

no problem. what they want to avoid is place Price on LITR during the summer, like they had to do last year. being over by only 3.5M is not an issue.
