We basically rented Debrincat for a year and got a middle six winger and a 1st. I'm happy. Moving on - GrimmdaGoalie
Yes, Ottawa rented DeBrincat for a season, didn’t even make the playoffs and flipped him for less than what they paid for him. And you’re happy? You should work in the Ottawa front office 😂. |

Vrana, Hronek, Zadina, now Kubalik. All gone. Beginning to think Yzerman isn’t real keen on Czech players. - danimal6777
I was just thinking the same thing. I don't think they have a single Czech prospect or anything. Vrana pissed Yzerman enough that he got rid of all of them in 6 months. It's mostly all Americans, Canadians, Swedes, Finns. |

I think it was pretty much a win-win for both teams. Dorian did what he had to... and he did get a first rounder. Kublik has a rocket of a shot that will net you some goals if you have a good setup man feeding him passes. Losing Sebrango wasn't going to hurt the Wings who have better defensive prospects ahead of him in the pipeline. - Vladdie_Kon1
Overall, this is probably the best that Ottawa would be able to get back and it is a decent return. it's kind of odd that the return was less than was given up, considering he was able to be extended, but the league landscape is different right now than when CHI traded him (and this was also done after the draft not right before).
Kubalik is fine if all you want him for is some goals. The rest of his game is pretty lacking. Kind of notorious for blue line and neutral zone turnovers. |

Hey guys, this is not rocket science.
Tim Stutzle led the Sens in scoring with 90 points. He had a +/- of -3.
DeBrincat was 4th among Sens scorers with 66 points. He had a +/- of -31.
DeBrincat thought he was worth more money than Stutzle on an 8 year deal.
Ottawa never had the cap space to resign DeBrincat. |

And yet here you are on Ek's site. Why do you come here? Just to throw shade? Does that make you feel all warm amd fuzzy inside? Is this the only place you can feel some power? For the life of me, I can't understand keyboard warriors like you. If you don't like the site, move on. |

Why don't these players just say they want to play for the hometown from the beginning. He ended up still getting less than what he wanted. |

I believe part of the reason Ottawa traded DeBrincat was to :
1) Show the NHL they are now open for business
2) To help energize a fanbase that was beaten on by the Melnyk ownership.
3) To show NHL players they truly are interested in building a winner here. A team to compete for a playoff spot and beyond.
I think they accomplished that goal .... even Giroux stated the trade caught his attention. Did it affect his coming to Ottawa in free agency? Probably not, but I bet it didn't hurt his decision making.
Now we hear rumors that Tarasenko at least has a passing thought to joining the Sens (sounds like he at least took our phone call .... LOL). Does this happen a year or 2 ago? Probably not.
I don't believe Dorion/Sens had much interest or ability in re-signing DeBrincat any ways, given the current cap system.
But let's be sure about 1 thing .... the fanbase has now re-engaged and is raring to go. Yes, new ownership has helped, but signings/trades like Giroux, Chychrun, and DeBrincat have helped. |
