Eller used to be an awesome 3C, he's just... not anymore - j.boyd919
I agree, but man it sounds like he was brought in to be that.
Who do we think are locks for the opener? I figure Eller and Accari were brought in to start. Probably Nieto too though he's cheap enough to be #13. DOC gets to go to arbitration so think that's encouraging for him.
Shoot me but I think if he's here Granlund is in the top 12 and maybe top 9 though overpaid. Then does Sully still play Carter? Can Nylander, Johansson, Hynostroza, or someone else get a spot? That's 15 forwards before mentioning Puustinen or Poulin so GL to them and Zohorna pushing 2 vets to the minors. |

Longer this drags out less likely I feel they get EK.
Feel like the deals will either costs too much or the pens don’t have the pieces to go the other way.
Feel like they start with granlund, and carter on the team. |

I sort of feel the opposite. The longer it goes, the more obvious it becomes that very few teams are interested. Maybe we're the only ones who's seriously working on it. I still don't know why Carolina is one of the few players. Not sure of the fit there. |

Well aware haha, I said as of this roster now DOC is one of our best third liners. We all know our bottom 6 on paper sucks right now. A lot of this can be fixed IF we get EK because our offense will get facilitated from the back end. - 668710
I think it's likely DOC gets first shot at 3LW. We know from both DK and The Athletic that Sully wanted DOC up here and playing. He doesn't have much of a scoring touch right now. He does generate a ton of good chances though. Also he is great on the forecheck. Hopefully things click this season for him. |

Yeah they have Burns and Tony D as purely offensive Dmen so I agree it's not a great fit |

Yup. Considering how swimmingly things worked out with EK and Burns together in SJ, and how he and Burns are not exactly BFF's at this point, I can't see how adding him to the D mix in Carolina would be a wise thing for the Canes. I do think SJ holds the cards though and would rather push this off until the trade deadline of even next offseason instead of making a deal they aren't 100% happy with now just for the sake of doing it.
I also don't think they are too keen on holding onto salary for a player who's performance hasn't justified the notion he's being overpaid, especially if it's in the $3-$4 Mil range. They'd have to get a lot in return for that to happen, and on the Pens side, it will be more than Petry, a prospect or two and some picks. They sure as heck won't want Granlund involved at all making the trade even worse for them. Seeing as how the Canes were reportedly offering Pesce, players and picks and they didn't bite on that, then the Pens only hope is to offer Pettersson or some actual established player of real value to them instead of everyone's garbage like all these trade fantasies seem to revolve around.
People think a rebuilding team will trade a perennial Norris trophy winner for old crap and shiny trinkets in return, while still paying the salary equivalent of another good player 4 years? I'll tell everyone this, if the Pens do land EK, the cost will be more than a lot of people will be happy with, but at least it would be fair. |

Time kills all deals and SJ has minimal leverage with his full NMC. Massive risk to wait until TDL considering how EK performed the previous three years. Something likely gets done before the season starts (probably pre training camp) and I’d put a higher likelihood SJ Will be less than thrilled with the return vs the buying over paying. |

Except we just saw DeBrincat traded yesterday when that was talked about before EK to PIT was even a thing. |

Just found the LeBrun article explaining it. It is today that it can finally go through. They are probably waiting on EK now. |

He had no reason to come here. He needs ice time to prove himself and wasn't getting that with most clubs. |

He’d easily get 3rd line time and potentially a few top 6 looks when injuries happen.
However, a DOC-Granlund-Zadina 3rd line doesn’t strike too much fear. |

Doc will kill its this with granlund feeding him the sweet sauce all year. Just need to proper player usage and it’ll all click. |

Ton of moving pieces, but if they clear Petry, Granlund, Rutta and one of R Smith, Rust or Rakell, also get a enough retention on EK, it’s doable, just incredibly difficult. |
