That makes sense. I'd love to see him prove that he is a top line center this year and closes in on at least 60 points at the AHL level. - burgh4life87
Sounds like a reasonable target. There should be NHL opportunities though, but that depends on Sully and I fear he has all these vets now so he won't try any of the younger guys. |

He lost an entire season in critical development years. That's rough. Puustinen has shown continued growth over the last 3 years which bodes well for him making a push at the NHL roster this year. DOC is the most likely to stick in the NHL, but I also think he has the lowest ceiling. - burgh4life87
DOC is just constantly disappointing. He looks like he could be an animal but never wants to set himself apart in anyway. Plays with a lot of fear of failure. Mike Sullivan has a lot to do with that I’m sure. |

Yep... He'll need to be noticeably better than those vets to get in front of them. I've always had the impression that prospects from previous regimes get less rope with a new GM. He'll need to impress Dubas even more than Sully.
One thing I noticed in the preseason last year was he looked like he could play at NHL pace. Not just skating, but decision making. Didn't see much on the offensive side of the puck. Obviously a really small sample size, but he looked like he could be a legit 4th liner already. I'm skeptical whether he'll ever get a real chance with the Pens.

So when is this trade going down with Granlund and Petry + for EK. I am waiting for us to get the extra cap space so we can finally grab Tatar lol - 123Kid
Not going to happen but it entertained us for a whole week in July.
But that’s alright because we need to clear 15m in cap space for next year for doobs to bring home papi, and ek would just take up that space. |

Bring home Papi? And yea I wanted EK but doesn't seem like it's gonna happen. Dubas definitely tried though. I'd still like to move Granlund for someone useful. |

Debrincat to DET. - Brownsoldier
Strange extension only 4 years. But got him under 8mill so that's a plus. |

So would we have rather given up what DET gave up to get Debrincat under $8m.... or lose even more assets and cap space for EK?

Very different. Hoping more teams are willing to do this. Sick of everyone getting Long ass deals that can't get traded. Didn't spend a lot to acquire either. |

Pretty massive win and was much needed for me to have some faith. Was a pretty underwhelming draft and free agency. |

And with the Bertuzzi trade earlier this year I'm sure getting another true top wing feels great. |

It was a fantastic deal for the wings. Term, AAV, cost to acquire. |

Nice to have a couple true snipers in Sprong and DeBrincat. Will be interesting to see how the lines shake out. |

You could really use a player like Granlund to set up all those snipers |

Geez…Does Karlsson deserve a bigger haul than that? |

The haul wasn’t that big. But, Since cap dumps are involved, it will be hard to compare them side by side. |

With the cap going up after next season, any young player would be stupid to sign a long term deal this offseason. Sign a good 3-4 year deal, let the market settle after the huge increase, and then benefit from it. |

This is true, but I also love the NBA model that allows teams to rebuild on the fly and bring in big names every few years in free agency. The NHL is stale in that regard. It's special big guys like Sid and Geno spend their career with one team, but also it leaves so many teams in complete mediocrity for a decade. |

I think this will make the graves signing even better. I think he was one of the best FA available. |

I forget who mentioned it here but, they made a good point. Our goalies will have a decent year mostly because we will be more defensively responsible. |
