Regarding the #LetsGoPens, I'm told any possible Erik Karlsson deal has fallen through and GM Dubas will turn to backup options. Seth Jones from CHI is a name that's out there

Hope to God this isn’t the back up plan they’re looking at…would much rather roll with Petry for the next two years.

Yeah I used to be a Seth Jones fan when he was younger but he never took that step forward to merit the contracts he got. Big pass.

Well since it’s slow right now…

@Feds been thinking about your peak Andy dalton comment and I think that’s right. For a QB that you draft around 20, I think that’s fine upside barring incredible draft luck which does happen. That’s why two years ago I wanted to straight up tank and trade TJ, Hayward, and Minka for what you can get and go for an elite talent but not sure don’t want to do that and it we’re going to focus on a soft transition that builds around our defensive stars, I think prime Andy Dalton/Smokin Jay type QB play is really the best we can hope for from a guy we could realistically grab in our general draft position.

If Pickett ends up Dalton in ability with a bit more swag/gamer mentality, I think that’s someone we can maybe win with with a really strong team around him.

Smokin Jay had elite arm talent though.

That’s true but his reads/decision making was ass. Probably a bad comp. Should have stuck with dalton, but I’m mostly saying that mid-tier level of QB.

Just better hope he’s more Andy Dalton than he is Jon Kitna.

Lol.

His hay day was probably when I was at ND and all my chicago friends were just so sure he was going to take that next step during the alivie Era. They used to talk poop about how he was better than Ben.

Reading reports about development camp Yager has cemented himself as pens number 1 prospect. Incredible shot and surprised everyone with how good his skating was. 2021 2nd round pick Tristan Broz has taken big steps forwards. Sam Poulin looked good after not training or skating for a significant amount of time, easily second best prospect at camp after Yager. Luke Devlin, Luca Fantilli, and Joel blomquist also impressed. Devlin has been training with Gary Roberts and physically is a beast. For a 6’4” 200 pound 19 year old he skates “very very” well and has a very heavy shot, plays sound defensively.

Owen Pickering not standing out at all. Struggled under pressure and needs to work on his shot.

Thanks for that report. Sucks to here Pickering is struggling. At least the rest of the guys I'd want to see standing out: Yager, Poulin, Blomquist, and Broz are. Poulin really should at his age and experience so really would be concerning if he wasn't.

If we don’t see Poulin this year it’s safe to write him off in my opinion. He’s kind of out of time unless he’s an a-typical late bloomer like Rust.

We get EK yet? We get rid out Carter and Grunland without any cost to us?

Nope? Well, I'll see you all at the next RW rant blog

The good thing about Pickering is that he's put on 10 pounds since the season ended. Him and Yager both need to bulk up.

There was one time when, during the filming of the hit show by the same name, the guy who played Mr. Belvedere sat on his balls and they had to stop filming for a couple weeks.

Full disclosure I’m biased here. I don’t love him as a prospect. Everything he’s shown so far seems like a reach as a first rounder. His main selling point seems to be “knows how to get goals in the dirty areas” which I feel just about anyone whos good at hockey at the junior level of play can do if they feel like it. This is why I like Yager. He has an NHL shot. Can he put the rest together so he can actually make it? Idk but I can get excited about the shot. I can’t really get excited about this random I tango able of “knows how to score”.

That's why his ceiling is third line, but he could make a huge difference if that third line position is center.

I would say more of a 2 year window. Needs to look like a fringe NHLer this season and a competent NHLer the following season.
