Here is the problem. Kent Hughes, for some reason, appears to always choose to try and prove he is the smartest guy in the room. It results in a form of terminal uniqueness. He constantly attempts to show himself to be different (better) by always choosing the road less traveled. For guys who think like this, it is really hard to get them to change. They love to go against the grain, go off the grid and make the bold choice and thumb their nose at their critics. They can't help themselves, it is just the way they are wired.

But, and this is important, this is how the really great ones in all sports management think. But, it is also how the guys who are total fails think. A large majority of decision makers work hard at living in the careful middle. They will exist for a very long time by always making the safe choice.

I believe Hughes is going to be more right than he is wrong. But with the emotional, volatile and highly knowledgeable Montreal fan base, it makes for extreme pearl clutching moments as all the Chicken Littles see nothing but a falling sky.

Another gem of a blog, K. I also agree with you in regards to "our" defense prospects... We've been crying for a new Andrei Markov since he left... Subban was the closest we had. Having a defense that has an offensive mindset both compliments the weapons we have up front in players like Caufield, Suzuki, Newhook, Dach, and company, but also allows creativity in getting the puck out of the zone. So many of the big bruiser stay at home defensemen just dump the puck and hope for the best. It's why Markov made Komisarek look so good... Because he was able to move the puck out the zone to the offense, padding his (and Komisarek's)stat line. The future is promising... We may see some flying Habs sooner than later.

Thanks, as polarizing as he was on the ice, I really liked P.K. Subban he was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise anemic attack and watching Hutson play, I'll admit that I do get excited, so much potential there, can't wait to see him how it will translate at the pro level though, if he'll be able to shine against big and tall NHL players.
