Good day yesterday. Added a few bodies for Laval, traded someone who needed to go, lost some spare parts that had no future in Montreal, and did not get caught up in the craziness.

So 1 player gone (Eddy), 3 to go... little hope Armia, Hoffman and/or Dvorak are traded over the summer (Dvorak seems the most likely, as his production almost matches the value of his contract, if he remains healthy).

Welcome to the long days of summer, don't expect much to happen except some signing of our own players that need contract.

I honestly do not get a large portion of the fan base.

I mean, there was nothing out there really interesting, TBH. Yeah, maybe some middle 6 or a defence here and there, but nothing that would make the club significantly better, just block kids from playing next year.

As it is, the Habs are trying to divest themselves of a whole forward line, why add more to the problem?

And even if there was someone they really wanted, who is to say they would sign with Montreal?

These are the same people who are pissed the Habs did not offer more than the Kings for PLD or think the Russian could have been the team's saviour.

They want the team to rebuild in 2 years, when they do not get this team has been in retool mode for 30+ years without any consistent success on any level.

Who knows, at the end of the day, if HuGo will do better or have more success (luck plays a part in it), but so far it looks pretty promising.

Twitter currently being broken is a good thing.

Not that I use twitter for anything other than TDL or FA or Draft days, things like that, and only refreshing my pre-made lists.

By definition, UFA's are older players and that's not what we're looking for.
We're building a young team that can grow together over the years, getting a 30+ years old player makes no sense for us at this time.

Social media is a wasteland, as others here I've never had a Facecrack or Twit account. I value my sanity too much for that.

I really like the Reinbacher, pick, not sold on the rest of their picks this year other than maybe Fowler. But what do I know?

By definition, UFA's are older players and that's not what we're looking for.
We're building a young team that can grow together over the years, getting a 30+ years old player makes no sense for us at this time.

I'd rather get a key UFA when we need one to help potentially put us over the top, rather than to keep us being mediocre.

Yeah, Carolina looks pretty damn stacked.

They went out and got the pieces they need to make them a real contender.

That's were we were for the last 30 years with previous management ... no man's land.

We just kept plugging holes in the lineup with overpaid mediocre players and the goal was just making the (frank)ing playoffs. We could never hope for more than that, it's no surprise our last cup was 30 years ago.

This new management team has a PLAN contrary to the other idiots before them.

Carey Price's retirement might have been the best thing to happen to this team as it marked the end of an era and it forced a rethink of the team's philosophy.

For years, a freakin' goalie was the best paid player on our team ... every decision was made around him and we kept insisting on playing a defensive game.
We never had a potent offense because they never prioritized getting a #1 centerman.

When we won cups in the past, we didn't play a "turtle around the goalie" type of game.

Price's retirement coincided with Molson cleaning house and bringing in new management with new ideas.

yeah, I guess that depends on how you view goaltending, when your goalie is the best player on the team it's kind of normal that he becomes the highest-paid guy, since he's your best player after all... that being said it's obvious that Price's cap hit quickly became an issue, with the salary cap barely going up, there wasn't enough left to build a proper team in front of him.

personally I didn't mind if the team was being structured around him, as I really enjoyed watching Carey play when he was healthy and could steal games by himself, but let's just say that a lot of bad decisions were taken as well, and ultimately as you're saying the habs never had enough fire power up front to win it all in the playoffs.

anyway I agree with you that it's nice to have a different philosophy now for building this team, with more focus on offense and speed.
