Honestly do you think our D will be nearly the poop show it was last season? Demko wasn't good to begin the season neither. We didn't get a win until our 8th game?

It still has Myers on it ... and Hughes tries to do too much playing like it's pond hockey trying to score 2 goals at a time when we get down by a couple. Hard to say how the new guys will fit and if it will be better. May take some time to gel so honestly it could be as bad or worse to start. Also, I don't blame the goalies at all. The quality of chances given up by the canucks was astounding. Just watching on TV, like blatant giveaways and absolute panic afterward. A bit better after Tocchet, but you could tell he still wasn't happy with the effort to team defense. Hard to properly judge a team in garbage time games when the playoffs are out of the question and you and your PK have been the laughing stock of the league for better part of the year.

Beauvillier is due a raise based on what?
- Nighthawk

Being as productive as Garland and Mikheyev.

I noticed you didn't mention Hronek, who many have him pecilled in at 6+ million, based on what, I have no idea.

Aside from his salary, Myers isn't a problem as a 3rd pairing Dman. I've actually never been happier with the Myers situation since before he signed his contract.

He's easily moveable.

Soucy is a plus, Cole is an upgrade on Schenn. Oh yeah, there's that Hronek guy we traded for who is pretty good.......not outstanding. We aren't loaded at D and any prospects we have need probably at least another half a year to develop....even if they have low ceilings.

I'm more concerned about C depth than the D corps actually.

No, the D will be better, but look what an injury to Demko did last year. This is a team with a history of injuries, but my fingers are crossed.

Well I’ll disagree with you on Myers. He’s proven to me he just hasn’t had the decision making for years. But ya, the d overhauled could be better.

Biggest problem for me is depth. Everyone healthy and if all the new guys are a fit, they might be ok but still a lower half team imho. But history has proven that rarely happens (especially for western teams) and they’re thin to begin with. When injuries happen, the drop-off is significant. Counting on a handful of guys to all have bounce back years is not a good recipe either. Then you’re banking on a kuzmenko to repeat, could be sophomore jinx. All this adds up to me that more things are likely to go wrong than right. I’m an odds guy and just don’t see anything here that brings any better results than last year.

Does Hughes play pond hockey? His metrics say he’s the one of the best dman with takeaways, possession and and transition in the league. I think that may have been more true a year ago, but he sure seemed to take a big stride defensively to me

We lack another top 3 D, 3C as we all know. Still need team D & nose getting dirty.

Pretty fair opening sentence,

In the summertime, optimism reigns supreme.

Carol neglected to mention the Canucks, who are oh so close.

Go Canucks Go.

Cap space is cap space, teams cap space doesn't shrink at the deadline........just the cap hit does and it's a substantial amount.

At the deadline, there are usually about 41 days left out of a 186 day season. That means that at the deadline, a player's cap hit will only count 41/186 of their annual cap hit on the new team.

Essentially, that's around 22% of a cap hit you need to fit under your salary cap, 11% if a team retains.

Now here's someone who fully understands it. Take notes SMP.

Aho is not as offensively skilled, but better defensively than EP. I think this sets EP at 11m-

As he should. 11X8 is no big deal. I will note that before he signed his last contract, I got laughed out of the room for saying they should sign him at 9X8

I don't see a problem with the team, I get exactly what I expect when watching the Canucks, a nice nap.

Yeah maybe that’ll help. I haven’t been sleeping very well since their season ended
