Maybe a half goal seems excessive although I think it's attainable. Even at 0.3 goals per game less, which you can get half over by having an average PK improves us to middle rankings for goals against vs bottom 8.

I actually think the team could make the playoffs this year based on what they've done so far this offseason, with the additions of Hronek and Demko for half the season along with growth from existing players.

I love all the optimism for next year, this is still a Canuck team so I'll predict a tsunami of tears.

Thoughts on this week with all the signings?

Still incredibly thin. It’s what I harkened on last year as well. A kuzmenko goes down and we have no scoring. Demko goes down, we’re done again. I know some think that’s the same with any team, but it’s not. Given that Canucks generally have more injuries with their travel, being thin to begin with is not a good recipe imho.

We’ll see if there’s some chemistry between the defensive d-men and Hughes or even a Rathbone. Seems like they’ve been trying to replace Tanev for several seasons.

What’s been talked about here for years about good players but a bad mix, I guess that’ll be tested this year. Different mix without Horvat for the full year, but also not really all that different up front.

It's part of it but I also think he limits offence somewhat so I don't account for it.

McDavid and/or Drai go down and Oilers are a bubble team at best. Most teams are like that. We can do without Kuz for a long stretch, Demko not so much.

To me this is the biggest (hopefully) improvement that the team needs to make. As you stated there isn't a problem scoring but the last couple of years the PK was disastrous, all these new additions seem to address this situation (or to me that is their attempt to or intention).

There is no way in hell that they bring back the same dysfunctional group and expect to be any better, so the additions of Cole and Soucy will certainly help.

I can understand that anything canucks brings up immediate criticism based on the last decade, but as a glass always half full type guy I'm hoping and expecting playoffs and not just a 1st round blow out like the Boston goons.

Well said,

The beauty is they've filled some holes on a 1 year basis, and another for 3 seasons.

Certainly players are ready to step up.

Yeah good for him. He earned it trying to carry this team into the fight better part of last year.

Pretty good for a guy who’s career was nearly over a few years ago in Anaheim.

Signed players filling gaps on our league worst PK? Reasonable short term deals? Sensible management choices ? Fans not bent out of shape because the Canucks were not dum dums this frenzy?

Yes and we can see a plan coming together.

They make a trade adding top 4 RSD Hronek. Then drafting D in first 3 picks. Addressed PK holes signing D in free agency. Plus the addition by subtraction of buy out and not qualifying D not working out.

It’s a complete make over short and long term. This is a plan that is being executed with precision. Even moving on from mistakes. It makes sense on the aggregate of D improvements top to bottom and not just for fringe players.

It's kinda nice to see the Canucks management actually making decisions seemingly based on a plan, which may or may not work out, but at least they are making decisions based on a plan. Address the PK, address size, address the lack of a young right shot defensemen (Hronek), replenish the prospect cupboards via college free agents and the draft. I think they are trending in the right direction in that regard.

The Canucks still have a glut of wingers, somethings gotta give on that front eventually before training camp.

It is going to cost a decent pick, to dump a winger.

On that note, it'll be interesting to see how they address it before training camp opens.

Ya, could be interesting. Not sure how many teams can afford a 5+ million, 3rd line winger though. At least not without a nice sweetener/retention.
