Interesting stuff from Nick Pryor talking about what Kyle Dubas has told scouts. He has told them, in regards to the draft, that he wants them “swinging for home runs on players with high offensive upside.”
I know next to nothing about the players being drafted, but according to internet draft people, seems like the guy we took was the complete opposite of that. |

“We’re trying to improve every single thing about the group,” Dubas said. “The acquisition of Reilly, it was more how would he fit with our players that currently are already on the roster. (Many) things were considered. But I don’t want to get too deeply into them because that could kind of tip our hand for other stuff.”
Doobie rocks. He doesnt mind gunslinging but he has a vision and plan hahah not just throwing sh!t at walls hoping it will stick nor is he running his mouth like JR would. |

Apparently one of his biggest assets is his shot. I think the knock on him, and why he slipped a bit in ranking, was that his goal scoring didn't keep upping as projected last season. Pretty sure he said he was trying to focus a lot more on his two way play, which by all accounts seems to be very good already. Anyone you pick outside the top 5 or 10, hell maybe even top 3, are going to be projects, usually. Of course there will be home runs in later picks but usually you wont know it for at least a few years.
I think him being rookie of the year in CHL is a good sign. I think him really being concerned about his 2 way play at young age is a good sign. May never ever be a NHL regular though...like the majority of NHL draft picks before him. |

Reilly Smith’s best asset is his threat off the rush which you know Sully is big on the transition game. His production is definitely similar to Zucker but I’m not sure his game is that similar. I think Zucker is much more of a puck retrieval, forechecking hound and I think Smith will be dangerous with someone like Geno who likes to open lanes up when he enters the zone to look for scoring opportunities. |

I thought the same thing when I read that quote. It was really weird. It seemed like post picks were reaches and it didn’t seem like any of them had home run thoughts. While Yager is considered to have the 3rd best shot in the draft by most I think that’s probably what led them to pick him but I was surprised they didn’t take Perrault. |

There’s always so many ways to look at things.
Detroit seemingly reached at 9 for a safer lower ceiling pick.
But the optimists say he was a playmaker on a bad team so that hurt his point production.

The funny thing is that if his argument was more based on the fact that just because they score a lot, doesnt mean they are the "most valuable" player, I would've fought on that hill with him because I agree 100%, but then he puts Pasta on his ballot which is laughable. Add that to some of the other ridiculous votes he's made in the past... guessing he just wants his name out there. - SuperHenderson13
I wouldn't call Pasta being in the top 5 list laughable |

Zucker was f'n awesome on the forecheck and boards last season. I think he will be missed if he goes elsewhere. He would compliment a Geno-Reilly line very well IMO. He would do a lot of the digging and dirty work. |

Wings fans especially myself thought Seider was quite the reach at 6. Somehow they saw untapped offensive potential and now it looks like a genius pick. |

I'm down with it. Carter is going to be on that 4th line though, I dont see a way out of it and I dont see him being a healthy scratch.
