Had to be on unconditional waivers today. Isn't the deadline in the offseason noon?
- burgh4life87

I thought the deadline was 5pm eastern? I have no idea.

I thought that was the buyout deadline, but they had to be on waivers prior to that in order to get bought out. I gotta find that cap friendly tweet lol

5pm sounds right, I know it’s later in the day.

I miss the days when I used to know the bat poop insane NBA CBA front words and back words. Now I can’t even keep the relatively simple NHL CBA straight. Parenthood is taking too much brain power away from the stuff that really matters: knowing every single move all of my teams could possibly make under the rule of the law regardless of how highly unlikely they are.

I just asked the capfriendly twitter account. It's noon in the offseason and 2pm eastern in the regular season. The only players who can be bought out now that were not on waivers are players with a NMC.

Matt Duchene bought out....??????? We need to sign him ASAP. I can't understand why that would be a good option for Nashville. Thats a massive buyout for a guy who is still very productive.

Duchene would be a perfect guy for us. He still produces offence, he's fast and can flip between LW and C. Definitely far from a perfect player but he is the big guy I would be chasing. He'd look nice on Geno's LW or as 3C.

He's from Ontario though, so he is one of the good ones.

I was thinking the same thing about him being on the 2nd line wing.

Wonder what it would take to get him. 3-4m?

With the total value of the cap hit they are going to take the next several years, Nashville probably offered to eat $3M or more and had no takers. Probably dependent on term but I think he probably gets $4-5M per year.
