I certainly hope so because Briere reached a bit here. I know Briere stated they really wanted to get a big RHS defenseman and Bonk was in the top 10 defenseman in every ranking I saw, but this was a weak draft for defenseman and I wonder if Briere should have taken the best player available at 22. The Flyers need help at center, and he had Stenberg and Ritchie right there, or Briere could have got the 2nd highest rated RW in the draft in Perreault or two top LWs prospects in Kristall and Musty. We'll see how this pick works out. - jd250
How do you know the Flyers didn't take the BPA?

I get that. But he is human. He knows he was traded, even if the deal ultimately got nixed. - MBFlyerfan
He might still end up in Calgary after they trade Hanifin.
I'm disappointed Briere hasn't been able/wanted to move Laughton yet. I feel like his contract would be perfect for a contender who needs a guy who can play wing and center in the middle 6 like the Avs.

They definitely took the BBA at 22 - Best Bonk Available.

Here’s a question: is there really a rebuild going on? Does moving Hayes and Provorov constitute a rebuild if nothing more happens today? If rumors are to believed, the Flyers are shopping Sanheim but refused to deal Laughton. Harts contract runs out in 2 years and TKs value may never be higher. Of these guys are not moved and Coots and Atkinson are coming back, aren’t the Flyers destined to finish 10th worst next year? May be early and certainly not a criticism of the Flyers FO at the moment, but a legit question. - mikeyo27
I wish Laughton had been moved for a 1st+ last night, but I think trading your top 3 dmen from last season for picks and prospects constitutes a rebuild. Provorov is gone, Sanheim would have been gone in a deal of questionable value if Krug hadn't blocked it, and Angelo is gone as the league rules allow it.

always asking the question he knows cant be answered by a poster. So cutting edge cliff. Also very innovative
Well reading what Danny boy has said, imo they wanted a dman. Therefore they picked who they had rated as the best dman left on the board. Now was that the best player who was still available?
Do you know they did take the best available? |

The only guy that could really be considered a reach last night was the kid the Leafs took who was sitting in the nose bleeds.
The rest were just the top-40 names in a blender, which is what was widely expected going in. |

It would've been great if the player they selected with the 7th last name started with an A. |

HOLY SHNIKEY! 1160 comments?
Now that the first 2 picks are done, I'd imagine there are plenty of folks that have "the grass is greener over there" syndrome playing out in their minds.

There was no way Laughton was bringing back a 1st in this draft class. Could very well be dealt today still. |

There are rumors GMDB turned down a late 1st offer for him.

With the first round come and gone, I’m disappointed Konency wasn’t moved for a first and to just free up both cap space and a slot on the right side with Atkinson, Foerster, Tippett and Allison all playing that position. If we do move Laughton or Konency, I’m hoping for a prospect who might be on the verge of playing this season. |

How we doing today people?
I have to say I wish we took Perreault at #22, but after getting Michkov I can live with Bonk. Many say he was the top d available on the board at that point. And Briere probably thought they would not be able to get a quality defenseman if they waited until the 3rd.
On NHL radio this morning they were talking about the lack of trades. They brought up a good point that after Reinbacker and Simashev went 5, 6, all of the other teams boards went haywire. All of the sudden guys who were expected to be off the board were now available and teams didn't feel the need to trade up. They were going to get one of their guys.
As for Konecny and Laughton, Im ok with them waiting for the best deal. No need to trade just to trade. This is not an overnight process.
As for Sanheim, I worry that now that his NTC kicks in soon it makes it much more difficult to move him. However, Sanheim also knows the team had him good as gone, so maybe that will motivate him to be open to certain deals to contenders who may be interested. - MBFlyerfan
The Hockey Guy on his post draft video on YT said Bonk was rated 16th overall on Hockey Prospects, so at least one ranking site had him rated pretty highly. I saw some had him in the mid-20s so perhaps he went roughly where he was expected. |

Pretty wild that Michkov specifically wanted the Flyers to draft him.
Not the Caps, not the Wings, the mother(frank)ing Flyers lol.
(and that cocky answer when they told him the Flyers were in a rebuild, he answered "well they'll start winning when I get here")

I’m still elated, 12 hours later. I can’t believe DB had the guts to pick him. His response that he wanted to win the Cup for his father was also great to hear. |

I think the Flyers will try to get pick(s) in the second round today. Hopefully they are able to move Sanheim. Getting out of that contract could really set them up in 4-5 years to be ready to add to an ascending team. That scenario assumes a lot of things I know. |

Laughton is currently the face of the franchise, as far as players go.

I’m hoping for some trades today as well. What do we all think the over/under is for just one trade from our Fly boys today? |

Yes I heard this and really, really want to believe this, but come on, if Arizona drafted him he wouldn't say the same thing? In the end, he is an impressive young man with high confidence and seems mature already. I especially liked it when he talked about his Dad, it made me tear up a bit, given I have two young ones of my own that are already nationally ranked in their sport. I really hope this works out, because as we already know, hitting on a top prospect leaps your franchise forward, while missing on a top prospect sets your franchise back for years. |

It’s not a rebuild if they don’t move those players. I feel if they don’t move them you either let them walk eventually or trade them when value is lower or resign them eventually. All are worse options then moving them now or soon to maximize the assets. This season should be the tank season. Michkov was a gift. Just load up next years draft and go from there. |
