If the Avs hit on a solid bottom 6 forward with even one of those picks, then they won the trade, even if Newhook pans out in Montreal. Cause he wasn't amounting to anything in Colorado.

As of right now, Avs won this deal. Newhook was given every opportunity to break into the Avs top 6 this last season with all their injuries/departures, and he couldn't do it. Hopefully this change of scenery will help him develop more of his potential, it just wasn't happening with the Avs.
Also, I'll be really surprised if the Avs don't trade at least one of 27, 31, or 37.
Don’t understand getting newhook and giving up those picks in a very strong draft year
Apparently Winnipeg did not want picks or prospects but NHL ready players
So does this mean a newhook flip in a new package for Dubois? Maybe now Dach available? Can’t believe Montreal would give up a chance at the perfect player for them.
PLD is going to LA, sign + trade deal, 8 x $8.5m - silence22
Looking like this is correct. Good for LA. I still think Montreal missed the boat.
Strong centre to compliment Suzuki. Would be deadly down the middle.
Just turned 25. Max deal would take him to 33 - all prime years

Wanted to play there
These type of players dont come around often.
Dubois at 8.5M ? they can keep him at that price... its a good trade for them but not good terms..
For Newhook im not so sure it was the best options but kid got Tone of untap potentials.. just like Dach... hope they are not going toward choosing reinbacher.. i really think they have to pick a forward at 5.. or you miss the boat !
i would have give the 37th to LA for Durzi
Draft good Fwd at 5 and a futur #1 G at 31st (Augstine/Hrabal/Fowler)

This kid was held back in Colorado, he's going to be an absolute unit under Marty. That goal where he walked the whole Ottawa team. Good Newfoundland boy

He was given nothing but chances in Colorado. Top 6, great linemates, minutes. Showed no real improvement.

First, thank you Winnipeg for sending PLD to LA.
HuGo has a plan, and bringing PLD to Montreal imo would have upset that direction. This team will be built around Suzuki, echoed by Caulfield when asked about his new contract. This trade is certainly a gamble, but the two picks given up were no different. The only difference is that Newhook has played in the NHL, is only 22, and has the natural talent to perform better than he did last year. Another young guy like Dach that should benefit from the coaching style of MSL. The future looks promising, I can only trust Hugo and company…..Go Habs Go!
Newhook is 22 yo. Not a fit on a strong Avs lineup but Montreal? Still had 14 goals and 16 helpers. This is Hughes MO. A 31st and 37th. Two second round picks essentially for a 16th OA. The Habs can't be rebuilding for ten years. Habs have a good young team with prospects coming out the you know what. They still have 18 picks over the next two years.
Well first of all, I'll say that I'm not surprised but extremely disappointed by PLD's decision. I just hope he will have the spine to say "I wanted more money and L.A. seemed like a better fit and a better team for me" instead of singing a 1-2 year deal with Montreal at the end of his career once no other teams will want him or even better to never sign with MTL and to whine about how he "never got to live his dream of playing for his childhood team". I mean, I completely respect him wanting to play elsewhere...I have zero respect for him spending the last years talking about how he wanted to play for Montreal above anything else. I just hope he won't use that B.S. story to get a job at RDS or TVA or whatever once his career is over by his late 30s (not trying to be mean, hockey players just don't usually play in their late 30s/early 40s)
Now that this is out of the way, I think that it's way too soon to pretend knowing who won this trade. Is the kid perfect? No, of course not, who on earth would trade a 22 year old capable of scoring goals if he didn't have obvious flaws. I think it's an interesting bet for both teams. I just kinda hope to see him play as a winger instead of a centerman.......I mean, I appreciate what Suzuki is bringing to the team, but the guy is only 5'11"...The Habs should be able to remember that having most of our centermen under 6'0" has been painful to watch for something like 20 years...Now, if he can be dedicated and learn to be productive next to guys like Monahan or Dach? Well that would make him a very interesting addition.....we'll have to see. It's an interesting bet for both teams.
