I would do either one - but prefer the bolded.

On the 2nd one we could even keep 20% on Gibson and 15 % Rico as he has only one yr left.

Either trade could even be expanded with more picks to help down the line .. .Yes I know for Pens it's a now game.

A lot of people here won't agree but both of those trades with the Ducks make a lot of sense for the Pens. I can't decide which I like better.

I'd probably agree on the one you bolded being the best. I love Henrique but getting the extra pick and cap space would be great also.

Honestly I don't think Jake Guentzel fits into the Ducks salary structure. But if Pittsburgh wants Gibson and Gibson wants too go I don't think Anaheim can say no. Pittsburgh has plenty of contracts to trade. Probably means Tristan Jerry gets traded too. So it's kind of weird that the Penguins would do that. Still maybe this works:

Tristin Jerry, Marcus Pettersson
For
John Gibson, 1 million salary retention, Maxim Comtois

Kind of a sideways move for both teams with the Penguins saving more cap space. Ducks could probably take another bad contract too as long as it's not more than 2 years.

Jarry is a UFA. I also don't know that the Ducks would need Petterson but I'd be on board.

He has a 7 year contract. He is going to go at things with a long term perspective. Not saying he won't trade the pick but there is a 0% chance he trades it just to dump Granlund.

I know Granlund sucked and his contract is bad, but I wouldn't be completely surprised at all to see him still on the roster to start the year.

I could see him bouncing back a bit and being a decent 3rd liner. Still prefer to move him but last offseason half of the people on here wanted to salary dump Zucker. He won't turn it around that well but I do hope we find a way to move on.

The purpose of the 7 year contract is he can go all in now (3 years) and have ample time to rebuild before the contract is up. It’s why nobody would take a 3-5 year deal here. You’d be up for renegotiation at the low point

He didn't get the job because he sold them on being competitive for 3 years and then being a bottom feeder for a number of years.

He needs to and will try to compete while retooling on the fly. I think they can do it.

My two trades:

1) Gibson and Comtois for Granlund, Poulin, and a pick (4/5 rounder)

2) Hanifin and Dube for Guentzel and Ruutta

Still more moves to make but I'd love to see those deals happen.

Don't need Comtois, ANA will have to sweeten the pot for PIT (or any team) to take on his contract (6.4 for another 4 years, eek!). Gibson + 2nd FOR Granlund + 5th, assuming no salary retained. If ANA is retaining 50% of Gibson, then I'm OK adding Poulin (who I am not very high on at all) to that deal.

There is no way Guentzel gets dealt. PIT needs to be able to score, he's a solid player in prime age, plays on top wing, not going to ask for stupid money, etc.

NO way Dubas takes the deal to take on the entire contract AND give up 14th overall for gibson.
