Really Don? Perhaps you forget.
During that period of time when he had the worse give aways and goals against in the league and the team was showing it on the stats, he claimed that it wasn't his play when asked about it. "I don't think I'm leaving anything out there" was part of the denial regardless of leaving more out there than any other forward in the league.
So the forward with the worse D stats in the league isn't contributing to the worse team D stats in the league? If he thinks none of that is on him(when clearly he stands out for it), then he is putting it on everyone else on the team.
It's rare you see that kind of arrogance from someone struggling as bad as he was. A team leader would talk about playing better not deflecting it onto his team mates only.
Miller is definitely capable of being a leader... until he's not happy then all that is out the window and he shows a astonishing amount of selfishness. - boonerbuck

Sure, but that’s not what I was talking about. I was only referring to the literal terms “indigenous” and “nations”.
Sure, there may have been visitors to the North and South continents before the Clovis migration. Not going to dispute that. But, a discernible “nation” is harder to prove. The genetic evidence shows that the vast majority of the pre-European peoples in the americas were Asian in origin. Those are the groups that have claimed land rights due to having a discernible established culture, hence the literal term “First Nations” (which is plural). We have no hard evidence that another civilization or population was able to create that same level of definable culture.
Again, we should take this off the main page. - bloatedmosquito
The early people of the Americas is much more complex than they teach us. The Oceanic population may have been much smaller and in South America only but they have left enough of their evidence to represent. Tools, weapons, cave art, skeletal remains, bits and pieces of mythology in the isolated tribes of the Amazon, and most recently, genetic evidence. This is why I disputed the claim they were the first to get here and set up shop and was "undeniable". You are right that they were not a wide spread nation though.
I find it sad that the topic gets treated as a threat by many. No one is making a land claim over this. They couldn't. It's a very important piece of our human history. This should be a blossoming topic in academics. Further more, black history once again faces the same old challenges. We are supposed to accept this race were not capable of something they have done all over the southern hemisphere at the same point in time. Some would consider that racist.
You may know this but the Clovis culture in America was replaced by later Siberians. This cycle of colonizing and replacing populations in America goes back 50,000 years at least. The Inuit did it in the arctic less than 2000 years ago. Athabascans left Canada several thousand years ago and colonized the American south west. We now know them as Navajo. They speak the same language still. The examples are endless really... |

Since when does everyone announce their intentions to sign or not a year ahead of time ... this seems to be a fairly new thing and very Calgary focused of late. - Sayros

Fair, but when I said “set up shop” I was referring to what we call “civilization” or “culture” which in human terms is only 7,000 to 10,000 years old. Before that, humans were nomadic, loosely formed herds.
And I agree, having a civil conversation about such topics gets some people all worked up. I don’t understand why. Some immediately hit the racist button. That pisses me off.

Scientifically, Culture goes much further back. Tens of thousands of years. Technically, civilization started with the Sumerians around 5000-5500 years ago. They have the oldest writing system we know of. With that being said, everything is getting dialed back. The Göbekli Tepe site in Turkey is 12,500 years old. The complex is huge. Hundreds of monoliths with clearly a well established mythology and astrological connection. Petroglyphs that can be argued are a type of alphabet of sorts. They have also discovered small scale agriculture and animal herding. This site shows that a massive amount of organization was involved. Without the writing system this isn't considered civilization but it's the closest you can get to it.... and it dates back twice as far as the Sumerians. It's perfectly intact because 10,000 years ago, the site was deliberately and carefully buried for reasons no one can explain. |

Again, all true, but if we are talking strictly about the Americas' then any group of people occupying the America's before the Clovis migration 12,000 years ago can not be consider a Nation if the commonly accepted theory is that civilization is only 10,000+ years old. Hence my use of the literal term first nations.
Now if you want to talk Asia, Middle East, Europe, that's a whole other ball of wax and you'll need to wait for a bit cause I'll need to get high as fu ck before we drive down that lane. |

The Clovis would be a culture not a civilization but I see what you mean. I thought you were talking the age of culture in general as a reference.
For civilization in America, that would be Mesoamerica. Not very old at all...
