interesting tidbit - hello it's me 2050
They have no picks in the first 3 rounds this year. I wonder what they would offer? I cant see them wanting to trade away their first from next season. They also don't have much in terms of realistic prospects to trade. Im not too interested in Ridley Greig. Maybe Tyler Boucher?

Trading Laughton would be a real alpha move by Danny. |

Haha funny how both Boucher's kid and Mark Greig's belong to Ottawa.
Ridly is a very Scott Laughton type player. Although he's a freakin' Wheat King.

If available, I’d take him. His skill level is something the farm system doesn’t have and sorely lacks. The KHL contract doesn’t concern me either. Anyone outside of Bedard isn’t likely playing in the NHL next year or the following anyhow. They can afford to be patient…in fact I’m hoping he slips to 7. - Sublime55
I have a few concerns…
1. If the Flyers couldn’t get a back up goalie over last year then a potential star player would be might be harder. Didn’t his Father have an “incident”?
2. I’ve read some articles about work ethic / attitude concerns, it could fake news to get him to drop but I would hope the team does its due diligence but a potential red flag.
This pick is too important to mess up to “swing hard incase you hit the ball” type of selection.
It seems like there are 3-4 others players available that might be more sensible pick if either the above is true.

1. The backup goalie they couldn't get over, played for a team sponsored by the Russian army. He tried to avoid his service commitment and got caught.
2. I have never read anything about Michkov having work ethic/attitude concerns. I would very much appreciate any link you have on that.
I think the fact he will be attending the draft goes a long way towards him signaling his stated intent that he wants to play in the NHL. Many people put him on a level with Bedard and if he is available at #7 you sprint to the podium screaming "spasiba spasiba!" It is the ultimate swing for the fences, a franchise level player. I think the risk is worth it. Its like passing on Jagr to pick Ricci.

The Jagr Ricci could be a good example! I
don’t doubt he wants to come but will the Russian government let him. If the reports of them recruiting prisoners to the army are true then anybody is likely to get mobilized. Any team drafting him would have to weigh that risk.
I’ll look for that story and attach the link when I find it!
I just hope the Flyers get it right because whoever they take needs to be a top 6 player for them team within 3-4 years.

I’ve read that Michkov took a step back when he developed some bad habits and inconsistency right before he got to Sochi. He was trying to use his elite skill to take on 3 defenders, taking low danger shots and chances, taking bad routes in the ozone, cheating on offense at the expense of defense, nonexistent grit, etc. Michkov’s game was completely out of sorts. Happens to kids.
But that got fixed after he got to Sochi. The team had a well defined structure and system. He got back on track and his game looked transferable to the NHL. Never found anything about a bad attitude or work ethic.

Nailed it!! Hexy is unemployed for a reason and the Coots contract was a callosal blunder, but let's keep sticking to our agenda. There is no doubt in anyone's mind (except one person) that this will end up being a horrific contract. Vegas had 30 blocked shots tonight, but that is an archaic way of playing defense. Perhaps someone actually needs to a watch hockey games?
- Phillywhiteout
There is no evidence at this point in time that the Couturier contract was a colossal blunder. Your claim that there is no doubt in anyone's mind is what is called a fallacy. As far as the blocked shots are concerned. As I've said in the past, blocking shots in and of itself is not what makes an archaic way of playing. I'd be happy to discuss with you in detail what makes the way Tortorella plays archaic. Then we would find out who actually knows what they're actually watching when watching a hockey game.
“There’s NO REAL EVIDENCE at this point that the couturier contract was a colossal blunder”~mjl
Coots first year of new contract
0 games played
0 goals
0 assist
Yep no evidence at this point.
Might possibly be the stupidest double down ever |

Regarding "mis-information" on a prospect. This may not be true, but I recall reading about a very respected scout for the Boston Celtics looking at Larry Bird in a college game. Larry made an uncharacteristic mistake. The Celtics scout - knowing there were scouts for other teams at the game - shakes his head no and walks out of the arena. Bird is drafted 6th by the Celtics.
Could it be the same for Michkov? |

Thanks for the link. That article reads like a phishing expedition.
The final paragraph says it all...
Beyond that, there’s been nothing concrete, no details, at least stateside, about these alleged character concerns.
“I keep hearing character concerns. I ask, can I ask what they are? I get nothing. I get nothing of substance,” an NHL scout from outside the San Jose Sharks organization told San Jose Hockey Now last month. “Part of me thinks some of it is disingenuous, trying to manipulate the Draft. Like I’m sure Washington [at No. 8] would be very happy to have him come there.”
Even the Hockey News article it links to says very little about character issues other than to say scouts are probably trying to psyche themselves out. Its like a clickbait campaign.

They’re reading their own propaganda. I don’t recall but was there any negative stories coming out about Yakupov during that draft year? That 2012 draft was horrible |

Comparing Jagr and Michkov situations are different to me. 2 totally different times with different situations. Though I get it.
As far as him attending the NHL draft I do not read much into it either positive or negative. We all know he is under contract for 3 more years in the KHL. So maybe Putin allows him to attend the draft for optic purposes only. Relays to him if you try to defect or any funny business , well you will not like the consequences or something to that effect. Eventually I do believe 100% he finds his way to the NHL without any hassle.

Lol there’s still a chance that he can come back and be an impactful player. Not a colossal blunder, yet. It’s not good, I’ll tell you that - ClaudeFather 31 year old hockey player with 2 back surgeries and lots of miles on his body (been in the league since he was 18 and plays a physical game). I think there is a pretty good bet that this contract is going to age horrifically. I truly hope I end up looking like a total moron with this comment, but I don't like those chances either.

yep and hopefully they do. No need to overplay your hand (though the have a few weeks). Take the late 1st (I also want a mid rd pick) and have 3 picks in the 1st. Then if they trade Hart or TK they may end up with more.
That would be job well done. Then just have to execute on the picks. My concern is I do not think Danny is really up to snuff on the amateur side of things. I think he will defer to Flahr or whoever is the main man in charge of drafting. They need to nail the 2 picks and make sure they are a minimum contributing NHL players. |

thought it was a mistake long before the back surgeries. They could have got a huge haul for him. Chuck rules. |

I wonder why all the tin foil hats are out in force over Michkov but there doesn't seem to be any danger that guys like OV, Kaprizov, Malkin and Panarin will get stuck in Russia after they go home over the summer...
Either Russia wants to keep all their players home... or they don't.
Top athletes have been a major source of propaganda and soft power projection since Soviet times. Hockey players specifically hold a special place in Putin's heart. He wants his best players going to the West and dominating Western leagues and winning their championships.
Keeping them at home or sending them off to a trench is far less effective use of their talents. |

I do believe that if wash does draft him he will be in the NHL come September. He wants his stars to be #1 and outshine the west. No doubt about that.
The Fedotov situation is totally different as it seems base don what's out there he tried to be sneaky and didn't do what he was supposed to.

And even Fedotov is playing exhibition hockey right now, not on some ship in the Black Sea.
He went on to do his military service and earlier this week an update confirmed that Fedotov and his navy team were taking part in the Armed Forces Ice Hockey Championships in St. Petersburg. It was also noted that “participation in this championship will complete Fedotov’s military service, and Ivan is expected to be demobilized by the beginning of July.”

articles on Laughton, then some on leafs, made me think that the Leafs could use a middle six forward like Laughton, espcecially with the Cap hit, so I look at Cap Friendly. The whole team is going FA in the next 2 seasons, and they are lacking picks. Now, it has it benefits, they can reshape the team with the contracts. Do they have some blue chip prospects not in the NHL?
The Oil are connected with TK but I think Laughton would be the better get, again thin on picks, this years 2nd, next years first. But Laughts would fit nicely with his ability and cap hit.
Avs same, Geez Tampa, same but aging and draft capital depleted. If the Panthers don't win, they will look for answers, thinking the window is open. Vegas is aging and has Marchessault and Chandler Stevenson as FA's. Marchessault playing the way he is at 32, tough contract to sign, unless hometown discount and Stevenson big pay raise.
The teams still with a shot, seem to need that middle 6 swiss army knife, maybe D depth and at small caps, maybe package Laughton and Seeler to max return and fill two holes cheap, but they will have to have some good propsects, picks seem limited.
Hats off to the Canes, good team that with luck could make a run next season and have all their picks to re-shape the team. Hart would fit nicely there and they have the assests to return, maybe send our picks back,LOL. I would be on the horn with the Canes and top teams.
Seems DB has a wide vareity of choices, for Laughts or whomever. What team would you target???? |
