Too much skill, and not big enough?
- flyer_nutter

Average skater + undersized is a combo that often causes a player to drop. I think he'll figure it out and become a good NHL winger. But he will have adjustments to make and strength to add first.

I wouldn’t count out Moore at 7 either.

The speed is there. Is the offensive ceiling high enough to go top 7 in a deep Draft?

I’ve seen that Nate Danielson has moved up a lot on some draft boards. Any thoughts on him Bill?

I personally don't think the offensive ceiling is high enough to be top 7 this year.

I would hope so, should be a good prospect available and potentially really good one depending on how the picks before shake out
- ClaudeFather

I agree, although not sold on Dvorsky or Moore @ 7. If Leonard off the board (rumors about him potentially going to the Habs), Bill's view about Benson- do they take Michkov? For me absolutely, but who knows. It's all speculation, I find it interesting.

I have a tough time thinking a first ever pick of a GM would be Michkov with all the noise around him but with the additional first it feels a tiny bit more likely. If he’s there, please take him. I don’t love Dvorsky, sounds like the low ceiling safe pick

I understand the concern. I just would be very concerned if Briere went Dvorsly, Moore, or Danielson with Michkov available. I would prefer Reinbacher over those 3, and I believe @ 7, he would be somewhat of a reach.

Again, #7 doesn't get me excited. I'd drop back to gain some more assets and select Willander around #10(ish).

Center and RHD are the two toughest positions to trade for or Ufa signing. Need to draft and develop.

Can't see us moving into top 5 for Fantilli, Carlson, or Smith. Let's get Willander around 10, then a center "project" at 22 or 27. Forget what pick it is. Sorry.

Couple weeks right, it’s gonna be interesting. Last years draft was electric, hopefully this one is good too

His hockey sense, compete and work ethic are so incredibly good tho.

Not to mention his skill.

I'd happily draft him at #7 and send him to a specialist to work on his stride. Worked for Brayden Point, Debrincat and others.

And then there is the Jordan Weals of the world.. Debrincat is like a tree stump, his size isn’t much of an issue

Sorry, but high floor/moderate ceiling is fine in the mid 2nd round but not at 22OA. I’d much rather grab a guy like Dman Tom Willander who, while not rated as high as Reinbacher by many, looks to have a similar floor as Reinbacher but with a higher ceiling.

You should be able to get a top notch player at 7, so swing for the fences at 22.

I think Benson will be gone before 7.

Wasn’t that what was said about the Jay O’Brien pick? Whoever they pick can’t be a Jay O’Brien German Rubstov pick. They better start getting these picks right and develop them into NHL players. I’ll settle for a Scott Laughton player who took 3-5 years to be a contributing player.

It's possible but the scuttlebutt is that he makes into the 10-15 range. Who knows?

Bill if Michkov is available at 7 would you take him? Or is he too risky?

I’d be okay taking one of those two high upside Swedes at Forward, Bill mentioned at 22nd overall.

If available, I’d take him. His skill level is something the farm system doesn’t have and sorely lacks. The KHL contract doesn’t concern me either. Anyone outside of Bedard isn’t likely playing in the NHL next year or the following anyhow. They can afford to be patient…in fact I’m hoping he slips to 7.

Bill (or anyone who might know),

After Russia invaded Ukraine, the NHL suspended its agreement with the KHL. Michkov has said he’s coming to Nashville for the draft. Is there any realistic possibility that Michkov “defects” and the NHL tells the KHL to pound sand concerning the memorandum of understanding between the two leagues? I doubt neither the US or Canada would accept jurisdiction if the KHL decided to sue Michkov personally so a law suit would simply result in a nonenforceable judgement in Russia which couldn’t be collected unless Michkov returned. Are there shades of the old Lou Lamoriello in some shrewd GM/owner? Is Michkov really that good? Time for a NHL version of a new Tom Clancy novel.

Michkov attending the draft suggests to me a willingness to play in the NHL. Now, it is possible the Russian gov't could do something shady in the future. However, the gov't is letting him attend the draft now. If Michkov ends up in WAS or DET, it will suck. The heir apparent to Ovie, or help the rebuild of the Big Red Machine. Fun times ahead.

If we take away drafting Brandon Wheat Kings, Russian players, enforcers, shootouts and All-Star Games, what’s left? Where do we draw the line. We already took the red line out of the game.
