2nd rounders esp in a deep draft are going to make the NHL. Unless the scouting dept of the Leafs is completely out to lunch, which is very doubtful.

now will they be giant contributors... that is debatable - but adding 3 2nds including the 1st pick of the 2nd would help Leafs...

Not today and for a win now team that is a very valid point.

2nd round is the Leafs bread and butter. Since they don't have a 1st all too often.

Literally every word in his post is factually correct.

Florida won the President Trophy last season and made a massive move. The only reason they even made the playoffs this year is because Pittsburgh lost to (frank)ing Chicago and Mrazek in the last week of the season. And the only reason they're still playing is because Bob put up historic numbers for 12 games.

The odds are not terrible that Florida misses the playoffs next season.

But yeah

Not sure why this is brought up as often as it is. All that matters about the regular season is making the playoffs, doesn’t matter if you’re 1st or 16th and Florida is proof of that. Because once a team makes the playoffs all that matters is winning series.

Florida will at least be number 2 when it comes to the most important part of an overall season which is winning series in the playoffs.

It's coming up because people are now implying that the Florida model should be followed.

Not so sure planning to catch lightning in a bottle is a practical stategy.

For sure. But that's not the argument.

Shack said what he said, and is factually correct in saying it. It's what literally happened. There is no other side. It happened. And King Negative Nancy head-slap emoji'd him and called his argument idiotic and like arguing with a Trump supporter.

The hilarity of saying that to someone stating a fact is unbelievable.

Report: Connor Hellebuyck not interested in extension with Jets.

_____________________________

Does this change the value of Hellebuyck in trade? Knowing they gotta trade him now?

I know goalies just don't get massive returns in trade already, but this might tie their hands a bit.

Maybe also change their entire thought process, too. They said they want no part of a rebuild; a retool, but maybe they now say (frank) it. Sell everything.

And my point is stuff like that always happens. Teams and players get hot and different times in the year. The goal of a GM is to build a team that gets hot in the playoffs cause the rest of the year doesn’t matter all that much, just make the postseason. Any team that does shouldn’t be surprising if they play hot.

So sad.
But this is how buttman rigged it, allow them to be successful right out of the gate.
However, vegas turns over players yearly, stars/core or not...they arent afraid to move players out and bring new ones in.
Leafs have to finally take notice....7 years of pretty much the same thing

Man, the new expansion drafts are way better than the old ones. Also, there's just far more talented players now then 20+ years ago.

I don't see why an expansion team has to suck for a decade. How is that good for the game or anyone?

He's likely pulling in a 1st round pick and maybe one other piece without offsetting cap.

If they are swapping cap space and such then a dump could go back to the jets.

Also, I wouldn't be shocked if the Jets just go forward into the season with him. See where they are at the deadline and flip him then or just him walk. Jets aren't a team that should really be tanking this coming year.

Which is why glowing about Florida makes no sense, a few posts after poop talking the Leafs.

Florida by definition lucked into the playoffs, whereas the Leafs were a top team.

Florida got lucky that their $10M backup goalie rediscovered his Vezina play and put up historic numbers in 12 games, after being one of the worst goalies in the league.

The only good thing about it is that the pick going to the Habs is now the 31st pick.
