Two things to post after back reading both boards:

1. Taxes, this convo always comes up with people banging on about how much they pay blah, blah....IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY FOR WEALTHY PEOPLE!

First of all, I will bet that every player has/is a Corporation and on top of that the Corporation is held by a Trust. Besides that they all have incredible tax advisors that know how to play the game. For example. Matthews may get paid "personally" his $750k as income. His bonus would probably go to his "loan out corporation" and then he can use huge corporate write offs and other mechanisms to offset massive amounts of income or carry it over year to year until he doesn't play and offset the tax liability then. SOOO many tricks of that trade. I would bet Matthews probably pays at the end of the day 10-15% taxes regardless of where he lives or works. Especially if his loan out corp is domiciled in Vegas or some other state that has a very low corp tax rate. It's a fun game that all wealthy people use. It's not a 40hr a week pay check. Not even close.

2. The core 4. The only one that should be traded can't be, JT. As much as I have issue with Willie or Marner's softness, they're great (frank)ing players. They need to be surrounded by the right complimentary players and hopefully Treiliving or Treedead or whatever his (frank)ing new nickname is can find the right pieces with limited amounts of $$. Dubas didn't do that for years, tried this year and they got passed the 1st round. Ok, so they lost in the 2nd round. It's an improvement, not the result we wanted, but an improvement. Leafs have some pretty ridiculous talent, piece the rest of the team together better IMO. And if they can find a BETTER coach, do it. If not, roll it back again and give 'er another shot. Oh, and lock the (frank)ing press out of the building all season. Who gives a (frank) about the standard issues interviews with the generic answers, I think it just gets in the way of team's focus. Toronto media should respect the team and (frank) all the way off. Let them do their thing and talk to them after the season. Hate the Toronto media. Hate them.

/end rant.

Have a great weekend (frank)ers. And no camp fires, it's (frank)ing hazy as poop down here.

I agree with all of this, although I don't care about the media. I consume their product after all, at least the broadcasts and TSN Overdrive radio.

I would like the endless barrage of gambling ads to (frank) off, that's repulsive.

So sad.
But this is how buttman rigged it, allow them to be successful right out of the gate.
However, vegas turns over players yearly, stars/core or not...they arent afraid to move players out and bring new ones in.
Leafs have to finally take notice....7 years of pretty much the same thing

The Leafs have only three picks for the NHL Draft in Nashville in June.

I have an excellent solution to this.. A way to add 3 additional picks... starting with # 33 and including # 58 and 59 -

It would take an investment from Tree to part with a young top 6 slightly underpaid F who shall remain nameless.

He "rigged" teams giving him their presumed castoffs to save their "best guys" and they all turned out to be great finds? I mean, good rigging, I guess he could see the future.

I cannot stand Buttman... but he "Rigged" it so Vegas booted a HOF goalie and ran with 4 or 5 this yr and are going to win the cup with basically an AHL level castoff... Do I have this correct now....

Useful players for picks doesn’t really work for a team in a win-now mode

Especially picks that have a very small percentage of making it to the NHL

2nd rounders esp in a deep draft are going to make the NHL. Unless the scouting dept of the Leafs is completely out to lunch, which is very doubtful.

now will they be giant contributors... that is debatable - but adding 3 2nds including the 1st pick of the 2nd would help Leafs...

Not today and for a win now team that is a very valid point.

It’s kinda (frank)ed that the Leafs help fund shït teams and are constrained by a salary cap, but also get (frank)ed even further because of taxes. If the league is going to make us pay for the Carolina’s and the Coyote’s of the league they should make the salary cap based on after tax dollars so it’s fair. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Trading Nylander and adding maybes does not help the Leafs.

I am sure Matthews would be thrilled.

About 25% of 2nd round picks play 200 games in the NHL. And I am pretty sure Nylander should get more than Jeannot did even considering some of the face puncher loving Leafs would like to think not.

Are Vegas not over the cap by a lot with their playoff roster. If so why is this not a thing anymore when such a big deal was made of Kucherov?

It's only useful if you're using those picks as currency to obtain other roster players. If you can turn the picks from Nylander into two useful roster players on great contracts, sure. But that's likely not going to be a thing.

Only reason the Florida/Calgary trade happened is because Tachuk told them he was not going to sign and Florida was on his list of teams. If not that trade does not happen.

The Panthers have not been shy to go on the PK this season

Regular Season: 3.55/GP (3rd NHL)
Round 1: 27 in 7 GP (3.9/GP)
Round 2: 11 in 5 GP (2.2/GP)
Round 3: 14 in 4 GP (3.5/GP)
Game 1: 8 and counting

_______________________________

Still crazy how "clean" a game Florida played in round 2. Would hate to be the team that had to face that super clean Florida team.

Lol. Thanks for the pep talk.

It's not that you don't agree with me - it's that your arguments are idiotic.

Literally every word in his post is factually correct.

Florida won the President Trophy last season and made a massive move. The only reason they even made the playoffs this year is because Pittsburgh lost to (frank)ing Chicago and Mrazek in the last week of the season. And the only reason they're still playing is because Bob put up historic numbers for 12 games.

The odds are not terrible that Florida misses the playoffs next season.

But yeah
