This is not how athletes operate, let alone people. If you don't pay, it doesn't incentivize performance. Yes: overconsumption is gross. Agree. But these guys are paid based on their value in the market.

Wouldn't call Nurse 3rd pair, but he is overpaid significantly. Yes he received $12M last year, but it drops to less than Huberdeau's hit next year and is less on the cap per season than Hiberdeau's. Likely about 1.5-2M more anually than he should be paid if he doesn't improve his game, but Hube's is likely closer to 2.5-3M above value if he doesn't get his game back. I like both players and hope they get back to their previous highs. But if both return to the season they just had, one is worth significantly less on his contract than the other going forward.
Not that what Ek thinks matters that much as far as what is actually going to happen is concerned, but "I don believe it gets done" is a pretty lazy and unclear way to be vague...I mean...one character too many for "I do believe", but 2 characters short from "I don't"...I guess he'll be able to claim he called no matter what (E5) lol.
