if the ask for #2 is TK, Hart and #7 do you do it?

no. Maximize the asset return

You have to read the post, not fill in your assumptions. I never said 2 years in the AHL, I said pro development (which can still be NHL). It doesn't matter what you assume he is going to do, the Flyers need to know his exact plan before pulling the trigger.

The Flyers just can not afford to pay that price for a player who "looks to be reaching his potential" then pay the big contract hoping he reaches it. He needs to have an impact before the big contract comes.

- Glak18

Makes no difference, you’re timeline suggestion is way off, he’s going to be an impact player as early as the following season

To me, getting a consensus #1 pick in most years is maximizing asset return.

What do you all think Hart's next contract looks like?
- Dkos

Depends on how he plays next season and what Hart's side is looking for.

He really hasn't proven himself to warrant a 6m+ contract, but most negotiations are done with comparisons to other players in the same situation.

Shesterkin is older, but signed a bridge of 5.6m and will probably want Bob money on the next. I just can't justify Hart wanting more than that. Plus the Flyers do tend to pay for what they think the player will do and not what they have done.

I think that’s the appeal to trading for him as well, it’s not like he’s done anything to command an absurd deal. Maybe $6-7M on a long term deal

Once again what you or myself thinks means nothing, the Flyers better know for sure because that's the only thing that matters. I put trust in the Flyers when they selected Patrick, they said all the right things even though many people had concerns about his injury history. It wasn't just bad luck, it was bad decision making. It was not a coincidence that the concerns became reality.

so potentially we may be giving up 3-5 picks to move up 5 spots. that's how i look at it.

tk should fetch a first and more. hart maybe a first but same, multiple assts. Just getting McDavid doesn't win a cup, its the team around them as well.

Dude you’re trying to justify the flyers mind set on a hypothetical trade…the kid will be a stud, if they trade up for him they clearly like the kid. Patrick was not a trade up and a consensus 1/2, it’s not like they moved capital to get him. You are talking yourself in circles for no reason

I would absolutely go crazy if the Flyers got Fantilli, but like I said there is no wiggle room for bumps along the way. If he becomes what I see then absolutely you gotta do it, but if there is doubt then you have to eat the consequences.

Agreed one player doesn't win a cup, but not having that one special player gives the same results.

For the Flyers they have pieces already which is a plus. They also would keep #22 and have 2 1st rounders next year and 2 2nds which are more pieces to add. Getting a player like McDavid or Crosby or Matthews is not a guarantee, it just gives a bigger advantage. The fact Edmonton can not build a team around McDavid that wins the cup is the failure.

I don't see why Anaheim would even consider it trading #2 for anything we have. They need transformational talent as much as we do.

Also, they're tied to Gibson for 4 more years at 6.4M. They'd need to do something about that if they were to acquire Hart as a long-term option.

Probably the 4x5/5x5 goalie contract that seems to be the standard right now (Ullmark, Saros, Elvis, Kuemper, Campbell, Lehner, Demko, etc).

Wouldn't be surprised if he'd bet on himself and signed shorter term tho... positioning himself for UFA when the cap goes up, like Gavrikov did.

Not for me. The Flyers are not 1 players away from being competitive. They need multiple picks to hit. Keep adding picks and young players is the way to build in my opinion. I hope the new development coaches are the quality picks too.
It’s a combination of talent, work ethic and being coachable ( willing to take and apply coaching)
I’m hoping the Briere, Jones and the scouts can spot that combination.

Don't see it either. Fantilli is exactly what they need and TK/Hart aren't.

The safe bet would be 4x5. He will become a UFA, but that only becomes a problem if he greatly excels and to me is worth the risk.

There's that too. I don't think Anaheim is content with just Zegras, but would become stronger with a better 1-2 punch and the pieces they have around them.

with the team as it is in front of him right now, i think it will be hard to excel.

Personally I could not pull the trigger on that, I really want to. If the team believes Fantilli can light it up in a year or two (max) then you overpay, but if the plan is to let him develop in the NCAA for 2-3 years then develop over a couple years in pro hockey before making an impact then no.

That kind of price you need a forward who will make an immediate impact on the ELC.

- Glak18

I would disagree on needing an immediate impact. If you believe that the player you select will be an elite player. You make that deal. The question is, if you would trade Konecny, Hart and the #7 for an elite #1 defenseman or center. If the answer is yes. Then you make the deal. 2-3 years is not a long time. Especially for a team in the Flyers position.

Fantilli's 200-foot game would really help to take some of the edge off of Zegras and Terry's more adventurous tendencies. I think the three of them would make a sick sick line.

There’s just no reason why Anaheim wouldn’t make the pick unless an absurd trade came about. Cooley and two firsts, something another team wouldn’t do

An ELC is 3 years. With Fantilli. You will know in 3 years what kind of contract to pay him.

I don't care about his numbers, he can only play his role. One of the keys that keep getting talked about is his mentality, which was one of his strongest attributes when drafted. He can still play well while the team loses. The fact is even if Shesterkin was on the team last year I can guarantee his numbers are not the same.

Can Hart ride the storm and come up when called upon when needed at times, that's the question.

Yes, potentially. But I look at it as getting a franchise #1 center who becomes the centerpiece of your rebuild going forward.

There is a flip side. Won't likely win the cup with Konecny and Hart leading the way. Good players but the Flyers have been able to develop good players. They need elite players.
