Something minor? How about Kevin Hayes 2.5 retained? It really comes down to what DB thinks of the guy he can get at #3 compared to the guy at# 7.
- landros 2

that would be interesting. or would they want hayes with retained salary for their 2nd and 3rd?

Is that evidence that he is a franchise NHL goalie?
- MJL

This seems obscenely obvious, and should really go without saying, but what Carter Hart did against teenagers 6-8 years ago should no longer have any bearing on how anybody evaluates him as an NHL player today, nor should it inform any decision-making from management regarding his future.

That stuff was relevant when he was a prospect... but he's no longer a prospect. He's got an NHL track record and that's what we should be basing things on.

Nail in the coffin!! Loved the morons saying they made him resign letang and Malkin. Malkin Crosby and letang were literally the only the guys on the team that produced lol so he was forced to sign the only thing that actually worked out. Everything else he touched turned to dust. And we know what he did here…

wasn't talking about value of the pick. in the scenario given i would want the additional assets for the players to get quality prospects. picking in the first round you should get quality prospects and there have been many selected outside of the top 5 that go on to be elite players. 7th overall should get you quality. having three more first round picks acquired for the players should as well.

this will be a long process. a move like this imo should occur down the road once the team is solidified more.

- Peter Richards

How can you say you're not talking about the value of the picks when posting "maybe true for lower picks. not for first round.". You're all over the place and constantly moving the goalposts. You've been wrong through this entire hypothetical. It is a no brainer that the 2nd overall pick has more value than the suggested cost in the hypothetical and is a deal that any team would make if it became available.

bc we were talking about the quality of the pick/prospect selected. two separate things. i.e. having 5 4-6 round picks will not get you the same quality of prospects as have 3 1st round picks. has nothing to do with the trade value. yes fantilli will probably be a great player, but if we are trading tk and hart i want the additional picks, select a player at 7 and have the additional 1st round picks to add additional quality. fill the holes and build a solid roster, then go after the elite player. next year we may be picking 1 or 2 as well.

No, we're not. The discussion is trading Konecny, Hart and the 7th overall for the 2nd overall pick. It has nothing to do with the quality of the player selected. The hypothetical is on the value of the suggested assets in the deal. Nothing more.

It is a no brainer and is not debatable. No team would pass up that deal to get the 2nd overall pick.

Would make sense. Trading Angelo opens up a spot in the D. Right now, in theory here is the D pairings. Of course, it is ugly

I have no need to re-read. The discussion was started by a poster who asked in a hypothetical on a trade of Konecny, Hart and the 7th overall for the 2nd overall. Would anyone do it? I can link to that if necessary. You should get your facts straight.

Not a Hextall fan but when John Henry’s group took over ownership they basically pulled the rug out from underneath him. They changed the direction from what he was originally hired to do which was oversee a retooling/rebuild.

You don't have any facts. You haven't used any sensible logic. You want to move the conversation towards players who might be picked with draft picks, such as the first rounders you might get for Konecny and Hart in a different deal. Picks that were not part of the hypothetical trade proposed. You also want to add players who turned out to be elite that were taken with later picks. Using simple logic and actual real facts. One would know that none of those players that were picked, changes the actual value of a pick. None of that changes that the 2nd overall pick in the draft has more value than the suggested cost or even the assets that might be acquired in dealing Konecny and Hart in separate deals.

The only ignorance on display is your lack of understanding of the actual premise and your lack of knowledge of the real world value of player and draft pick assets.
