Montreal is not interested in adding Carter Hart
New Philadelphia Flyers GM Daniel Brière has told anyone willing to listen that he is willing to take offers on any of his players, including goaltender Carter Hart.
The 24-year-old goalie would be an interesting addition as he is still progressing and could develop into one of the top goalies in the NHL. But even if his age and the Canadiens’ desire to strengthen the organization at the goaltending position could make Hart an interesting target, we’re told the Canadiens will not be exploring this avenue. The exact reason is not entirely clear, but we were told it was a “non-starter.”
During a media availability Wednesday morning at the combine, Hughes showed some openness to the idea of entering into contract extension talks with Sam Montembeault, who could become a UFA next summer and would be eligible to sign an extension as of July 1. But as per his policy, Hughes will not comment on those negotiations, should they ever begin.

So go ahead and scratch MTL off the list.

That was a blurb in an article essentially about Luc Dubois. It’s Hughes being Hughes. What I did see in another Athletic article was Pronman predicting the Flyers taking Reinbacher at 7. |

Wait, there are people who wouldn’t trade 7OA, Hart and TK for Fantilli?
Really?
TK is 2 years away from UFA and he’s not getting you a player close to Fantilli straight up. Hart is a good goalie, but he ain’t the next Roy, Hasek or Vasi.
If Anaheim is willing to make that trade (which is extremely unlikely) you make it in a heartbeat. |

You seem to be stuck in the 2022 lay of the land. Bedard's jumped way out ahead this season. Fantilli has jumped ahead as well. Most scouting services are not factoring in geopolitics and are purely ranking by talent and prospect quality.
As I said before, he could actually end up being the best player in the draft, who knows. But as of right now, June 2023, he's not widely considered #1 or #2:

Try to look at it this way. Who is fantilli compared to? Michkov? Which would you rather have? |

I would have Bedard #1, Michkov #2 and Fantilli#3. Michkov has more upside and is a more cerebral player. Fantilli is safer and Michkov is swinging for the fences.

From what little I’ve seen in the top ten mock drafts, I’m gonna bang the Nate Danielson drum. Moves his feet, positioning, playmaking. |

Pre-draft comparables are less than meaningless.
Otherwise Nichushkin would be Eric Lindros right now and Makar would be Tyson Barrie.

There is a chance that Michkov is being underrated due to relative lack of direct scouting and the IIHF bans. |

You’re talking about handing over the opportunity to have 2 firsts and 2 seconds minimally for konecny and hart. Probably more. Not to mention giving up the 7. Yea foolish - Just5
the quantity also gets you or should get you quality as well. this will take years.

Yes, it is foolish. 2 firsts which likely would not be high firsts and two seconds to draft a player with the 2nd overall pick with the real potential to be an elite player. It's a no brainer. The only thing that bothers me is the Flyers past luck with the 2nd overall.
Would you trade two 1st rounders and two 2nd rounders for a young Auston Matthews or Nathan McKinnon? - MJL
how about nail yakupov or nolan patrick or kakko or reinhart?

Are we really arguing that if we had the opportunity to move up to pick Fantilli we shouldn't because he could be Nolan Patrick or Kakko?

Apparently people are scared to trade a top-six winger and an average NHL starter for shot at a near-generational talent.

Does Briere’s recent experience as player help him complete a tear-down and rebuild the right way? I hope if they are committing ti a rebuild they do it all the way and don’t half-ass it. I guess we will see how much rope Comcast gives him. |

Great article from someone that knows goalies. Hart is highly regarded, and the fact that most guys that really understand the position believe he still has room to get better. I think the Flyers need to maximize the asset for sure…I also believe there will be 3-4 teams that really look at this as a great opportunity to get a good young goalie who in the right circumstance could one day be considered elite.
-Landros
I still believe it would be a huge mistake for the Flyers to trade Hart. However he is their best asset to move this rebuild forward. I would not trade Hart unless I was getting something huge back, for example say Anheim's 2nd overall pick or Columbus' 3rd overall pick. It really has to move the needle forward significantly on the rebuild for me to consider trading Hart. |

Quantity rarely gets you quality. One of the biggest fallacies that many fans think is if we give them enough lower quality assets, they'll give us the big prize. |

This would be good for the Flyers if Michkov does in fact get selected in the first couple of picks, because that ensures a player like Moore will be there for them at 7. Moore is exactly what the Flyers need, a top 6 potential center with blinding speed, top end skill and excellent at faceoffs. |

That would be relevant if the pre draft scouting had Fantilli on the same level to those players.
