I sincerely don’t mind riding the guy as a backup. The love for Samsonov is too high imo. He’s not taking another cheap deal either is my bet. That one in Toronto was his second in a row. The year before he got a 1 year $2 mill contract.

I'm afraid they are going to get outbid on the guys they'd really like to resign.. Who had nice playoff runs... Schenn - ROR - Acciari just so many other teams that have the space and needs for them.

Exactly, and you can’t run with more than a couple league minimum guys.

Also, to think they’ll run with no extra forwards is crazy too. Last year was a hiccup to start the year and it got changed as soon as possible.

So the reality is 7 forwards and a d man, averaging around 1.75$ mill each (average). There just won’t be enough to get ROR without moving one of the core guys.

Loading the bottom up with a bunch of league minimum guys and rookies is a mistake, even if it gets the cap space to land the second most valuable UFA this year.

Actually most of the competitive teams are cap squished and they carry one extra skater ...maybe two. Leafs have started the season with 0-1 extra skater for the past 3 seasons. Teams don't plan for 23 anymore ...it's rare.

And bottom 4th lines making 1M or less is pretty standard stuff now.

So the reality is 5 ..maybe 6 fwds and a blueliner. with 14.75M to spend.

They've got 12M to spend on 2 meaningful fwds and a blueline upgrade.

Probably need to trim that # in half... No way Buttman wants to see that.

As far as Schenn and Acciari are concerned, if the Leafs offer (if they offer) is close to what other teams could be offering, they'll pick the Leafs. I think both of them have made that clear.
