He hasn’t shown that he’s the same player without Kane. Apparently he’s been complaining about Canadian winters. |

Canadians better get used to the idea that American players might not want to be on a Canadian team. This will happen more and more moving forward I just know it. |

Nah, no more than usual and it will depend on the city.
I dont see Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal having this issue...and montreals winters suck as well. |

Too bad they cost more when playing in Canada.
They don’t agree to a contract based on the cap hit, they agree on them due to take home. Even Marner was going to sit until he got something that made his take home a little more than $5 million. |

Yeah, but Leaf fans can't really complain too much about the economic playing field in the NHL.

When it comes as to who can be played sure I can.
The closest US team is NY tax wise and they still have damn near an additional $5 million they can spend.
There’s a reason only 3 Canadian teams have made the finals under the cap. Two of which occurred year one and year two of the cap until teams were able to make the necessary adjustments. The third time was nothing more than Price standing on his head. That reason? It costs them more to sign the talent plain and simple. Unless they’re Americans then they only get league minimum during the season with the rest as a signing bonus on July 1 while in the states.
For instance if Matthews wants an $8 million take home he’ll need to be signed for roughly $14 million. If it was straight Canadian taxation however he’d cost over $17. |

I think the lack of Canadian teams in the final is much simpler than that - there's 32 teams and 7 of them are Canadian. If it's really that big of a disadvantage the Leafs and Habs have the clout to address it, but they've never said anything about it. Maybe it's not really a thing.

So roughly 25% of the teams are Canadian and they’ve only made the finals roughly 15% of the time. Or, ignore the first two years which is when the change was truly occurring then only once in 16 years making it 6.25% of the time.
And not one single cup win.
If you can’t see why 50% of the top 10 paid players are on Canadian teams you’re simply in a denial. |

It has more to do with poor management than taxes.
3 of the top 10 contracts are on one team and have been handed out by 1 gm. One of those contracts is 1-2 million less than what American teams were offering the player.
2 players are tied for 10th: Huberdeau and price
Prices contract was horrible then as it is now. Again, nothing to do with overpaying price to stay but more so to do with a bad deal made by a gm.
Of the top 20 highest contracts, only 5 are on Canadian teams.
Of the top 30 highest contracts only 6 are on Canadian teams.
Of those 6 players with high contracts on Canadian teams, only 1 is American. |
