I guess Petry, with only 2 less points in 20 less games last season, has a good cap hit too?

I’m not anti Petry.

Reasonable does not mean good.

You don’t judge D men solely by point production.

I dont either, really...and like I said in previous post I dont really know all that much about Severson, havent watched him that much. However, I will say that Petry does a lot of things I like besides production and also, that I thought production was a huge point for all contract negotiations, no matter if its a defenseman or forward.

EDIT: I knew you aren't anti Petry...more so a comment for some of the other posters around here

You’ve been big on xGF stuff recently and Severson is really good there and HDCF wise.

yeah I think their whole team was above 50% in everything hahaha...I was checking it a lot because I was checking in on Marino, and his relatives, a lot this season...because he and Petry were mentioned a lot around here.

The cap is reasonable. The term is not.

I agree with both of these. My guess is that was the only reason he agreed to be in a sign and trade scenario? CBJ balls were in a vice grip.

Severson looks elite even when you go to a 3 year look. He’s a fringe top pair guy. Basically when his play fades he will be perceived the way Petry is. Still good but not what he used to be so will be deemed a bad contract even though actual value is a lot closer to the cap than most will admit.

Was no chance NJ kept him and sign and trade is the only way to do the 8th year. This was his chance of a big pay day and he cashed in.

Severson is prone to some bonehead mistakes and NJ fans will tell you that. He and Babcock will have words more than once.

Babcock makes less and less sense with the skill they’re adding.

I think what Petry brings production wise is fair for his cap hit.

Petry also had a +2 at 5v5. And Severson was a +10.

Petry had a 53.94% xGF and Severson was a 60.68% xGF last year.

The issue with Petry has always been if he declines due to age and how that effects the cap hit.

Severson is 28, so the first 3-5 years of that cap hit should be fine, but after that.. look out.

Nah Babcock will whip him into shape just like how he turned back the clock one year on a 3 time Norris winner to be the reason he wont like 4 more.

I’m just waiting for Dubas to sign Luke Schenn and watch this place burn to the ground.

Severson for the Norris 2024.

Columbus is making some splashes. Bit of a big contract for Severson but its Columbus, so they kind of have to if they are going to build a good team.

They still need a top center and some more forward depth. Kent Johnson is going to be a stud and they are going to get a great player who can contribute in a year or two with the #3 pick. Interested in seeing what they do with Roslovic.

They have too many RD's right now, so I'd expect someone to go out. Outside Severson they have Gudbrandson on a bit of a tough contract, Boqvist, Peeke and then they have Jiricek who should probably be ready to make a jump to the 3rd pair this year.

Why? Schenn close to league minimum is way better than Rutta.

Group buying the Sens backed out. Can't see them signing Debrincat long term without a new ownership group in place.

Yah, pretty much. Rutta is so bland.
