If the report is right I like it for Flyers ...the tank is on. Kings pay a lot to avoid the Peterson buy out. Jackets roll the dice hoping Provorov is good.
Flyers give up Provorov and get a 1st (CLB), 2nd (CLB), 2nd (LAK), prospect (LAK) but have to eat Peterson and Walker.
Kings cut Peterson and Walker loose (saving 8M AAV) but have to eat 2M AAV of Provorov and pay the prospect and pick.
Jackets get Provorov at ~4.5M at the cost of a 1st and 2nd.
Some other poop in there too but nothing important. |

Agreed though depends on which Reilly bothers to show up. The regular season one injury or not wasn't great past couple seasons. I mean Virtue blaming was rampant - Roadrunner75

Watch him when he's healthy and not with your "He stinks of Senator" goggles on.
This year past his ankle was as good as it's been in years. He's not stripping pucks off of a lot of guys (although he was 3rd among all defensemen in takeaways behind only Fox and Slavin; he was also 1st in giveaways which happens when you have the puck a lot but are also sloppy with it). BTW, in Rates/60: Karlsson was 6th in Giveaways, Rielly was 8th. In takeaways / 60, Karlsson was 4th; Rielly was 120th out of 183 qualified (minimum 800 minutes, all situations). In hits, these two power machines were 115th (Rielly) and 177th (Karlsson) out of 183.
You aren't going to find many stats or game clips that prove that this season past Karlsson wasn't as good or better than Rielly at every metric. That's just a fact. He has always been a vastly superior hockey player. I don't know why it has be justified.
In February when we all hate Rielly again, we can rehash these conversations! - Monkeypunk
I've never watched him like that. In my opinion, the best Karlsson has ever played, was in the playoffs that one season where he obliterated the guy on the Habs with that hit. I thought he was incredible that series. Outside that, he's still the best offensively currently and the absolute worst of all time defensively.
Basically the entire season this year, was garbage time for the Sharks. Where personal stats are padded at the expense of actual good hockey.
Giveaways and takeaways are probably the worst tracked stat in Hockey (excluding hits on the Island ). Every arena has a completely different definition of what classifies as either. The stats say Marner only had a couple giveaways in a few games in the playoffs, but if I was counting, it'd be closer to 20+ in a couple games. And gotten worse as the games went on.
I likely won't be hating on Rielly come February because I also might be the only one who wasn't hating on Rielly this season. Because I understood he was playing hurt. And playoffs, yet again, proved me correct. He was incredible when healthy. |

It's cool. We're not agreeing on this. We can pin it here. Rielly is cheaper. I am not bending on the notion that Rielly is physical. I've seen him throw a few hits that are nice - like you, I also watch all the games I can. As I said, there are just no stats which show Rielly is superior defensively, either. More hits doesn't make him better - we also know this. So that's why I just can't even meet part way on this. I will give this completely: Cost / Production: I'll take Rielly when he's healthy over Karlsson when he's healthy, but a healthy EK tilts the ice like a McDavid on the blueline. Surround THAT guy with Marner, Matthews, Nylander and Tavares?
Anyway, I'll leave the closing argument to you. - Monkeypunk
Personally other than offensively I think Rielly is the better player in general, he’s no beast defensively but he’s better than EK. I don’t care how good a d man’s offensive skill set is tbh. If he isn’t strong defensively he shouldn’t get more than Rielly, offence is not their primary role on the ice.
And since Rielly is literally $4 million less, and the sharks would be looking for prospects and picks not another top pairing d man, it’s pretty safe to assume the leafs simply plan on sticking with Rielly for the offensive d man role and that makes me pleased. |

I don't think he's super physical, but I also think playing with a guy that IS physical, boosts Rielly's physicality.
To me, it felt like playing with Schenn turned Rielly into a hitting machine in the playoffs. |

1: It was Nathan Beaulieu.
2: He really was outstanding in that series. Best player on the ice. |

That’s the biggest thing for me. I get that the pp has been tops in the league the last couple years but there is still a lot to be desired. A lot of it because they don’t have a legitimate qb on the pp. I’m ok with keeping rielly too but you have to find other guys to trade in that scenario and first would be muzzin and Brodie with money retained by sj and then work around the draft pick and prospects. |

Man, Beaulieu crumbled like a brick of logs on that hit.
I honestly couldn't believe it at the time. Didn't think Karlsson had it in him. Don't think Beaulieu did, either. |

Makes sense. Buffalo doesn't have the resources needed to help him fix his wrongs.
Dunedin has the new state of the art facilities to help him get right.
I hope it works, and quickly. |

Karlsson is just about the last player the Leafs need on their d core - Jesus I hope that doesn’t happen for Leafs fans.
Unreal offensive talent on the backend - utterly horrific on the physical and defensive side of the game. |

This. Big time. He’s just an older less physical version of Rielly. - Dozzer
I agree with you on the defensive end. On the offensive side though, a healthy Karlsson is a whole different level. He has the ability like few others to freeze opposing defences. He's like Marner, but plays from the back end. Which I think would actually suit our style, as long as you get a Schenn type to play with him.
Wait a minute.... If we get him to play on De....
Nevermind.
We already have one.

"In a recent study, the #Leafs are the No. 1 most-viewed NHL team on TikTok, Not surprising. But of the 'Big 4' Sports (NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL), #Leafs are 62nd. Ranking that low says more about the NHL falling behind in marketing to younger fans. " |
