I can't wait for the fans to scream that the Flyers need a goaltender. So Hart gets traded because he is now an old man at 24 and it will waste his time if he plays during this "rebuild". So the plan is to wait for that magical 18 year old superstar goalie in 4-5 years then wait what 3-6 years to develop them while their prospects start getting into their mid-20s?
Still can't figure out the thought process here. How often do people think goalies become superstars at 20-21? - Glak18
A guy like price, i think people forget that it took until his late 20s to really emerge as a star. Rarely do guys come in and become stars right at 20 as you say. I’d keep him and maybe in 4 yrs when he’s 28 he’s the stable vet tender that can help them make a run.

Except he’s not 21 he’s 24 and on 2nd deal. And will be 25/26 when 3rd contract is due. You simply cannot pay players that bag to be on rebuilding team. It hampers when /if time comes to truly compete. Hart value now versus some distant future dictates you trade him now. Timeline in a cap world is a top priority. He simply doesn’t fit any timeline in Philly

Price was putting up .920's before he turned 24. He started 72-games (!!) and pitched 8 SO's in his 23-yo season. He got serious Vezina consideration. And he wasn't playing in front of great defenses either. All the early signs of an elite player were there.
Hart's nowhere close to Price at the same age. He's still way too inconsistent, with his play tailing off every spring.
At some point pre-draft hype needs to actually translate into NHL performance beyond a few weeks here and there. Or he's just another Steve Mason.

You aren’t setting table in 3/4 years. This team way further out than that
Funny that CBJ now has both Werenski and Provorov. They could end up playing on the same line. - Thrashahoy
Jarmo Kekäläinen had to dig deep to explain for Provorov, that Boone Jenner wasn't an alias for Bruce Jenner. And that CBJ had nothing to do with a sexual act.

The Montreal teams were still more solid than this dumpster fire. The main reason that you see a tail off is the pathetic and horrible teams that’s in front of him. In 2019 20 when he had a somewhat decent team in front of him, we saw what he could do. He was fantastic that season and into the playoffs. How long do you give a tender? Until he’s 20 then out the door? How May times have we seen the flyers do this only to regret it? I just love how quick many fans forget how long we’ve gone without a tender and a lot of it is to do with a lack of patience. You give hart a team and he’ll perform
Danny is saying that nothing has changed on hart. That he’s listening to all offers but doesn’t sound like it’s imminent. Maybe it still is. If it was me, I’d be flipping Peterson even if I have to retain. He’s got the bigger cap hit. I just don’t see the value of trading hart then blocking the young guys with a 5 mil guy. If you’re handing the kingdom to ersson sandstrom and whatever is left from frontline fedotov after the war, then just do it. - Hextall271
Would Peterson be blocking a young guy or would he be the vet to share the net with a developing player? If Hart is traded, is it realistic for a guy like Ersson to play 50-60 games? Or is a 50/50 split more reasonable? If a young guy falters, Peterson can take the net full time.

If you want to absolutely tank and so get rid of hart and most other vets, just give the keys to the kids and let it ride. Well bottom out and get the lottery picks we’re aiming for. I think the plan is to falter. Also, 5 mil for Peterson is ridiculous for a rebuilding team. That’s what the oilers pay for Campbell and they’re going for it.
Its nice to be able to add some players to the draft discussion now with the #22 pick. Maybe look at a guy like Charlie Stramel. - MBFlyerfan
Yes. It’s great to have another pick in this draft. We just absolutely can’t afford another Patrick type bust pick. Have to hit on both and on next year too.

One primary feature of elite goalies is that they can consistently elevate bad teams and erase bad play in front of them, tho.
See: Bob, Price, Hank, Hasek, Ryan Miller, Lou, Shesterkin, etc.

He was fantastic in that '20 PO run. He was fantastic in October '21 and October '22 too. Many NHL goalies are capable of looking great for a few weeks. Very few are able to sustain a high level of play. Hart has yet to show that he can do that.

Hart will be 25 next season. Ideally you'd like to give him another season or two to show what he's got, but the team is about to get even worse before it gets better. If he continues to be average and can't rise above the mess in front of him, he's not gonna turn that corner here.

hart wll also want a 8 year contract. no thanks on that, same with TK sell mortimer
I’m gonna miss Provy…I don’t think he lived up to expectations but he was still a decent defenseman that got sucked into the mire during the end of his tenure here. I feel like he along with the team ran into some bad luck with the Niskanen retirement and the Ellis injury that if they didn’t happen, who knows where his career here would have turned out. Best of luck to Ivan.
