One primary feature of elite goalies is that they can consistently elevate bad teams and erase bad play in front of them, tho.
See: Bob, Price, Hank, Hasek, Ryan Miller, Lou, Shesterkin, etc.
He was fantastic in that '20 PO run. He was fantastic in October '21 and October '22 too. Many NHL goalies are capable of looking great for a few weeks. Very few are able to sustain a high level of play. Hart has yet to show that he can do that.
Hart will be 25 next season. Ideally you'd like to give him another season or two to show what he's got, but the team is about to get even worse before it gets better. If he continues to be average and can't rise above the mess in front of him, he's not gonna turn that corner here. - Tomahawk
There is a limit to what a tender can do without a modicum of support. Price wasn’t able to elevate teams to a cup single handedly. Other you mention had at least good teams. I think people feel like if you’re not able to raise a pathetically terrible team to the promised land, it doesn’t mean you’re not a good tender. It’s a team game. In my view, he was quite consistently good until the team in front of him fell completely apart. He’s actually been able to put some good trenches together the last two year despite how absolutely horrible the team has been. The last two years we’ve seen some of the worst teams this team has iced in recent memory. No elevate goaltender could surmount this group.

So I'm curious, what do you think they should do with him? Keep him and hope for the best? Play it by ear until his contract expires? Extend him? Stick with him until the bitter end? |

So final details (allegedly?):
To CBJ: Provorov
LA retains 30%
PHI: 1st (LA from CBJ), 2nd (LA), Helge Grans (RHD), Sean Walker, (RHD) and Petersen (G) - TobyFlenderson
Based on this deal, I’m assuming we have to take the best possible center at 7th now, no? |

That's a major contradiction with the goaltending names you listed. Because EVERY single one of them, except for Hasek, had some inconsistency throughout their career and most of the time that ran parallel with how the team performed, so was it the team or the goaltender?
John Gibson? Not that long ago he was considered one of the elite goaltenders in the league, but team is crappy now he's oh he's done and crappy?
Goaltenders and the team in front of them can feed off each other very easily. Brodeur very much hit the wall when the Devil's went away from their trap defense. Great example is Patrick Roy, wow did he have some excellent defensive teams in front of him, but boy did he want to split as soon as possible when that went away in Montreal and he looked like absolute garbage on that poor Montreal team.
Blaming a goaltender for every soft goal is unfair sometimes, Shesterkin let in some super stinkers in this year. There are ways of judging how well a goaltender is playing, but when they are getting bombarded with odd man rushes game after game or poor coverage a goaltender can only do so much. Expecting super saves every game is just unrealistic.
Another example is Luongo when he played on Florida. He faced A LOT of shots, but not all those shots were close in shots either. Shot selections and what a team gives another team is big as well. Goaltenders facing tons of perimeter shots tend to have really good save %. |

I’ll be pissed if we bring in another winger. We have next to nothing at center in the pipeline. |

Or perhaps we’re not in the position of luxury to draft a center above all else and should instead draft BPA. |

Best wishes to Provy. We will definitely have a hole on the blue line now; he took a lot of difficult minutes. So I’m guessing everyone is good with the return though. A ‘23 1st, two future 2nd round picks, a good RHD prospect, and a NHL d-man. Not sure what I think of getting Peterson. He mostly played AHL this year. Maybe he plays for the Phantoms with the Maier kid. Grosenick didn’t work out.

Yeah I know you have been banging the Carlsson drum for a long time, would love to get him, but it's not going to happen. If there's a talented winger that is the best available you don't skip that because you have to take a 200 foot center with energy.

I don’t buy this. Center is one of, if not the most important position on the ice. We have two picks in the first round in a center heavy draft. |

What!? No I haven’t, I barely know anything about these kids outside of Bedard, Fantilli, Michkov and Reinbacher and this only based on what I read here. |

I'm very satisfied with the trade Briere made or maybe I am so used to lopsided bone head trades that ones that aren't complete trash make me happy...not sure yet.
Rather not have Petersen, but that was the cost to make a trade work and was compensated for it. Walker, if he can fill a role and possibly get an asset at the TDL then it becomes a winner no matter what the picks turn out to be.

Do you realize how many times you have posted mock Flyer lineups with Carlsson in it? You have been called out on it as well, while saying the Flyers should just figure out a way to get him.

Extremely impressed with this trade. So many components to it.
1. Getting an nhl worthy right handed dman back that balances out our pairings
2. Clearing out 2 contract slots of players that have zero future here
3. Getting a look at a young prospect for the ahl team to see if there’s anything there.
The minor cap bump helped Danny get top dollar back here. But there’s no doubt Danny worked at this. No doubt he utilized the leverage available to him with these teams.
My lord what a breath of fresh air. Fletcher couldn’t fathom a deal like this. Wouldn’t even dream of it. |

That second pair defenseman (Feanor the all knowing refers to Provorov as) fetched us a first pick, a second round pick and prospect on defense better than anything in our system. I’m very interested in seeing where Provorov is slotted in Columbus. |
