Parenting is obviously one huge part of a kids makeup and how he deals with people, I think nationality also has some to do with it. In general the Canadian kids seem more grounded, respectful and appreciative of the opportunities they are given, same as swedes, fins, etc. On the other hand the US kids seem to be a little more full of themselves.

Pretty much how I look at it. Understanding the grass is always greener somewhere else the limited time I spent in Canada no doubt those folks are happier more respectful people.

And the way it's drilled into Canadian kids who play hockey it's team first they seem less narcissistic than their American counterparts but IMO American hockey players are more like Canadians than regular American kids.

Colby is out and Darren Pang is in?
Am I the only one who hates the idea of Pang being the voice of the Blackhawks?

- captainserious

Pang is a good guy. I'd much rather have him on the broadcasts then some of the other slugs.

In his playing days, my niece (who was 12 at the time) met him at a Skate With the Hawks benefit in Bensenville. She still has the picture of the 2 of them on skates and they were the same size.

I also ran into him at a breakfast place in the west burbs before his gig in St. Louis. Always congenial in person and frankly more knowledgeable then most there now.

OK Panger is in then.

I'm still not sold on Vosters, was a tough listen at times last year. Maybe they all are when they are young.

Does this mean Sharp is going all National?

- vabeachbear

Not sure. The Athletic article doesn't address that. A copy and paste:

"One of Blackhawks fans’ gripes about the team’s broadcasts this past season was the inconsistency of the radio and TV booths. They missed having Pat Foley and Eddie Olczyk on TV and John Wiedeman and Troy Murray on radio. When Olczyk left to join the Seattle Kraken broadcast prior to the 2022-23 season, the Blackhawks scrambled to fill his place. Murray bounced between color commentary on the radio and on TV, Patrick Sharp would join for stretches and others filled in where necessary.

With the addition of Pang, that issue should be resolved. Pang will call a majority of the TV games alongside play-by-play broadcaster Chris Vosters. Murray will return to mainly calling games on the radio and will still occasionally be on TV. Colby Cohen will no longer be involved in the Blackhawks broadcasts."

Cohen announced he's going to Philly to be close to wifes family. Getting Jones' gig?

He did announce he was leaving? Before or after the Pang news?

Makes sense for him. I hear him doing NCAA games and there is quite a bit of that on the East Coast.

Never been a big Darren Pang guy, but could do worse. To me, Chris Vosters was the better part of the broadcast team last year. Colby Cohen to me never fit. Always enjoyed hearing Sharp because of the fond memories of him playing for the Hawks, but he could be a bit "wooden" at times. I think some of that comes with experience.

Some of the US markets (not Chicago) have had really lackluster NHL broadcast teams over the last couple decades IMO. I think the Hawks could do a lot worse than Vosters and Pang.

At least they aren’t simulcasting like the Kings are going to do this year.

The Kings extended defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov two years @ $5.875M AAV.

They must have hired Stan; they gave him a full no-movement clause.

Wait? You mean Blake is executing his off season plan, even though they are up against that dreaded cap? I thought that was going to be impossible after the Fiala signing?

Cohen out is and will be the second best news this off-season second to winning the lottery.

Not sure the timing, it was on Twitter. Said he was going back to be close to family in Philly. Someone posted under it that his wife is from there.

And i thought they were going to buyout the goalie?

I said it'll cost them at least a 2nd and it did, great job by the LA GM, glad he doesn't work for the Blackhawks

And watch them still lose to the Oilers in the playoffs, hahaha

Wow a second rounder to sign one of the top D men on the free agent market. Maybe KD will have a team that makes the playoffs in 10 years. Can KD rebuild the Hawks as fast as Blake did the Kings? Blake being in the LA market, and having AEG as an owner does not have the rope to take forever to rebuild like KD apparently Kings haven’t had to trade any of their top prospects as of yet, so they have just a strong if not stronger pipeline than the Hawks.

Peterson signing was a mistake. Blake corrected it and moved on. Would rather have a GM that makes an error of commission than omission. You appear to want the opposite.

And a second rounder is way less painful then having that buyout cap hit on the books for th next 4 years

Not jumping into the middle of you two, but one thing i know for both the Hawks and Kings, replacing the mid 20 year old versions of Toews, Kane, Keith, Kopitar, Doughty, etc. is not as easy as one might think.

Having that many generational players at the same time won't happen often again. The biggest problem with it now, for both franchises, winning a cup is the measuring stick, anything less is just losing.

That's why I like the rebuild. No way to retool and win it all in my mind. Both teams approaching it a bit different, though not a much as some think. Just think the Kings didn't do a complete tear down, and started a few years earlier. They are closer to the time where adding FAs can make a difference. One could argue if a Fiala is the piece to put them over the top, though maybe that's not how they view him, just think he's a better piece in a position than they had in the minors.
